Recommendations for a weekend hire in June - North

Hi,

Can anyone please suggest good place to hire for a weekend in early June?

We have hired 4 -5 times before. There will be me and the wife and two "kids" 23 and 20, plus a small dog.

Will need plenty of locks and pubs. From Leeds but happy to travel 100 miles. Hire price the cheaper the better, not bothered for a flash boat, but bigger is best.

Thanks for any ideas.

Shire Cruisers at Sowerby Bridge. In a weekend you could get up to Todmorden and back and with another day up to the Summit.

Glorious scenery, a fair few locks, some decent pubs and not too far from Leeds.

That does assume they will have got the flood damage sorted by June.

Not sure if by 'weekend' you mean literally Saturday and Sunday only? Pennine Cruisers do Friday-Monday short breaks and suggest you can cruise to Foulridge and back in that time. Plenty of locking to do in some stunning surroundings.

Marine Cruises at Swanley Bridge Marina, on the Llangollen nr. Nantwich. You could get to Whitchurch in a full day (c. 8hrs). A number of locks and swing bridges, and the staircase at Grindley Brook. Pubs at Wrenbury and Willeymoor Lock, Pub and Cafe at Grindley, several pubs in Whitchurch, though you have a 15-20 min walk into town...it's a lovely town. Moorings on the visitor moorings on the Whitchurch Arm.

Why travel 100 miles when you have one of the best and most beautiful sections on the whole system virtually on your door step?

Out and back West from Skipton - (Snaygill Boats or Pennine cruisers) - sorted.

...or start a little further east, at SIlsden Boats' base, which would mean you also get to cruise the stunning stretch through Kildwick. No locks till you get to Gargrave, but a few swing bridges for interest

Yes, and we liked the White Lion pub in Kildwick too, but haven't been for ages so no idea what it's like now.

Unfortunately I'm just not a pub person (excepting the occasional meal), so there's always a big pub-shaped hole in the advice I'm able to give on these threads!

Lovely Indian food at the "Bollywood Cottage" in Gargrave -- and that's speaking as somone who lives just north of Southall...

From memory they will deliver to a boat on the VM's too. (Unless that's changed)
