by'eck
Seem to recall cellulose thinners. You certainly need that to clean brushes having applied some recently.
Ex- Member
Cellulose thinners will do it, I removed it all from our mushroom vents recently, use some old rag it does tend to clog a bit. Edited August 7, 2014 by Julynian
scrumpylurcher
You can obtain very fine grades of wire wool (used in woodwork) that will not show visible scratches on your brass, will remove most things with the addition of a agent such as shiny sinks. Yes Scotch Bright pan scrub type material is available in various grades and sheet form from good chandlers. On heavily tarnished brass I use it with Shiny Sinks, then wash off and finish job with Brasso.
Grace and Favour
Cellulose thinners (on a rag) is certainly what I would use. (some clear 'brass clear finishes' similar to Incralac can also be removed with methylated spirit on a rag
