blackrose
If you don't have a long-term CRT licence (i.e you have a visitor or explorer licence), then it's 25 quid to lock in at Sharpness to get from the Bristol channel onto the G&S. I guess it's the same travelling in the other direction too. I don't really understand why someone with a temporary licence gets charged while someone with an annual licence doesn't, but's that's the way it is. ditchcrawler
Some locks and most Sani stations and water points require a BW key. These can be bought in person at CRT offices. Some locks have anti vandal systens installed. These nornally require an anti vandal key which is like a T key but with a hex drive socket on a stick. Most chandlers on the canals stock these.or ebay
paulam
Charges apply at the Teddington lock (river Thames) only if you want to stay overnight, IIRC is £12 per night.
the grinch
Richmond Half Lock river thames can be bypassed approx 4 hours each day (less on spring tides and more on neap tides as it depends on tide height and speed) Goole Locks as said outside of normal hours - but who would want to be outside !! Pomona Lock Bridgewater canal to Manchester Ship Canal/Salford Quays) Mutford lock North sea - broads (NOT in a canal boat!! other charges are made for mooring at selected CRT sites if you overstay and a lot of River Thames banksides charge by the night

You can use the lock at pretty much every state of tide. Same with the lock at Grimsby, Fish Dock.
DaveC
I can remember when there was a charge to pass through the locks on the (non tidal) Thames. We didn't have to pay though because we were on a hire boat that had a lock pass, in addition to a TC licence. The lock keeper used to collect the fees with a very long handled butterfly (type) net. Not sure when that fee was incorperated into the licence fee. Dave

It was a fiver last time I stayed - but that was a mooring fee. As far as I know there's no locking fee at Tedders.

And they insist you rope up fore and aft for the couple of inches rise/fall. The lock is so small it only takes a couple of boats at a time and filling in the paperwork takes a bloody age. It took us three hours to get six boats through and only four needed licencing at that
