Evening all,

Just wondered if its possible to hire out your NB?

I would guess you would have to get some kind of public liability insurance, but if you had this is it ok with the RCT to hire out your NB if you wish?

It's just fine just go for it......

PS ... who the hell are RCT?

Does anyone know if the rules are different if you offer a trip on the canals...on your boat, steered by you.... a small party such as 2 adults for example. That way you manage the boat, engine, etc, and they still get a few days on a canal boat. You'd moor up each evening, and arrive to continue their journey in the morning.

Surely that's less full of red tape?

I would certainly think so. After all they would be friends and you are certainly allowed to take friends with you.

Of course they are your friends.......................until that fateful day that some sort of accident occurs and the litigation starts. Suddenly, even your insurance company doesn't want to know either:-(

Subject to your insurance allowing for that and as long as no money is changing hands I can't see an issue with that, you can even loan your boat to somebody though some insurers ask to be made aware.

However if you are charging for that 'escorted' trip it could be argued you are getting into 'hotel boat territory' which brings you into a different category of boat requiring a traders licence etc etc etc....

Nope!

You'll have even more red tape . . . including a specific licence (involves training and many Elfin Safety aspects) to take fare-paying passengers - - - - -
