Just so my source can be rubbished its in Historic Waterways London and the South East , picture 147,148. 149 is the picture taken in 1903 of tbe modernised lock that was posted earlier. 146 is the picture of the pair just entering the lock also posted earlier.

OK having remembered to get my book out to see if the date that this lock was washed away is in there.....

 

It is, this lock went in the floods of 1898, so this picture must predate that.

 

Actually look very serviceable, the split beams will probably last a good few more years, the doors look fairly good above the water. I've used gates that looked like this in the 80's and worked better than many new ones!
