Anyone know any charity group hire boats?

Hello

I am looking for a large narrowboat (70 foot at least) that sleeps 12+ for a group of scouts this summer.

We previously hired the Belfast at apsley locks and this was a superb summer camp.

Obviously keeping the price down is a must, but I would love to take them further afield than the london end of the grand union.

Any one any suggestiosn or contacts?

Thanks

Brian, two Charities which spring to mind immediately -

The London Narrowboat Project, www.lnbp.co.uk Boats operate from Braunston,

Hillingdon Narrowboat Association, www.hna.org.uk Mrs Jenny Thorne Director and Treasurer The Boat House Royal Quay Coppermill Lock Harefield Uxbridge UB9 6JA Phone: 01895 823 582 Boats operate from Harefield.

Both organizations specialise in providing services for groups of Young People.

The other organization worth contacting is the Community Boats Association, www.national-cba.co.uk Most of the Charity operated boats are members(couldn't get the site to work just now but may be off for maintenance)

There's a charity boat that is moored at my Dad's base at Preston Brook. I think thats 70ft or near it. Give Claymoore Navigation a ring and they'll be able to give you the number of the charity boat people. I think they might be called The Adventure Boat Project or something (but don't quote me on that)

Good luck

Try the Canal Boat Project

http://www.canalboatproj.freeserve.co.uk/

They are based at Harlow on the River Stort and have the Rose of Essex , a 62ft narrowboat which sleeps 12 and the Red Watch, a wide beam 70ft which also sleeps 12.

Also check out ActiveWorks

Best Regards

Yep, that's right... I pass there regularly and the boat is always out and about.

I've used the LNBP boats from Braunston, as a matter of fact we took two of their 70 footers out a couple of weeks ago for a long weekend, the scouts loved it. I was most impressed with how interested they were, constantly asking questions and willing to help with the locks. I would like to say a big thanks to all the boaters who chatted to them, several scouts commented on how friendly "canal people" are!

bur of course, we know that.....!
