  1. Nope, well I passed today without one, to be fair there's no electrics on the boat at the minute.
  2. We I'd it from Preston brook in a week including a Chester detour, we did some long days but yes it's doable.
  3. Ok so the widow maker 2 x 16a male - 1 x 16a female isn't the most legal or safe cable, the truth is yes it would work as long as the bollard is wired to a single phase, which is easy to check as it must be clearly stated 415v between sockets if there is more than 1 phase wired to it ( using my little knowledge from a few years working on big power supplies ) So erm in short I'm not saying you should do it, but yes it would in theory work. Don't blame me if it goes bang.
  4. You do but it's included in the mooring fee. I'm only on a 20ft boat but it's only 690 for mooring and licence
  5. Preston brook marina on the bridgewater, Bob that runs tt is generally very helpfull and will do his best to fit people in, even if it's on a wall mooring till something else is availablem that end of Runcorn s on the train line into Chester and n Wales as well as Manchester and busses into Liverpool are regular.
  6. Good to hear you found it and hope it isnt all as bad as if first seems,
  7. Just you know someone came looking for help, and now anyone who is genuinely trying to help / is interested has to trawl through a rather large pile of shite postings to work out whats going on. That is all I was attempting to say.
  8. And now I realise why although I come and look at posts on here, I hardly post myself due to the petty bickering. I hope she has found her dads boat though, with or without the help of some people on here.
  9. 410v would make it look like it's generating a full 3 phase supply, but somehow chucking it down to a single phase socket, odd but not impossible would also explain the fact utility says it's switchable between 450 and 240 not sure where 50 comes into it though. Generators woud t require a pat test as they are not an electrical item as such they don't have a plug and use electric they make it.
  10. Ended up buying mandalay, it was cheap and well as a first boat figured I could do the few bits of work it obviously needed.
  11. Sorry, yes I had seen that it's off to winter at telfords warehouse in Chester
  12. Hi folks, I posted a couple of weeks ago about an old Norman with outboard issues, well I've got it going, car battery, jump leads and a big screw driver and yesterday set off from Sawley heading back up to Preston brook, managed to get to Burton today so all is going well just need to make fradley by tomorrow night, not helped by the fact I'm now in Manchester on a night out, met a couple of people today who said couple of hours tops, but canal plan and the books seem to say 6 hourish. Any advice other than don't get to wasted tonight?
  13. Cheers Neil, think I'm learning the lesson with old outboards at the moment, I am going to start looking for something newer with parts available and replace this odd old thing as soon I can.
  14. That's kind of what I've been thinking, if I can get a boat for under £900 that following advice on here doesn't seem damp inside, couldn't see lots of blistering, was out of the water and anti fouled in the last few years and well will do me for now, then well maybe I just take the plunge, hope it doesn't go wrong and well slowly spend more and do the few jobs its got. Am I a foolish dreamer or is that accepted due to the boat buying.
  15. It's a tomos outboard, yeh I know not what I want really, but the boat is costing bugger all with it. I have found the old Uk importer today who says he's got a workshop manual he can send me, supposedly the outboard works fine just you have to do electric start and the cable wasn't there I'm hoping the owners have it in the pile of bits at home they were talking about. Failing that could I just pop the 2 wires for the electric start not a battery for a second or 2? In theory that should spin it surely. I'm not giving in yet........
