Leicester King's Lock

I've just been cycling along the canal in Leicester. As you head south from King's lock the water levels get lower. By the time you get to Gees lock the level is about 3 foot lower than it should be. Everything is back to normal by Dunn's lock.

Anyone heading that way be warned.

Many regards

Started at Dunns lock this morning at 10 due to chatting to the BW guy last night who said the levels were down, luckley was joined by a BW Gang and a work boat, managed to get through Dunns lock but got grounded in every lock down to Kings lock and had to get flushed out every one, ran aground in both pounds many times keeping in centre channel and had to flush water down to get off, stuck on shopping trolleys under the fly over leading to Kings, even running aground on the lock moorings so had to run nose up to lock gates, there is just no water on that stretch, two hire boats couldn't even get into blue Bank lock due to water level, so please seek advice from BW on the ground as all people seam to know is that the locks are closed from 2pm -10am to ration water, believe me there just is no water on that stretch at the minute. Also a big thank you to the BW gang from the Birmingham area and the BW guy from Lichfield for all your help today.

We moored at Barrow On Soar last night with a view to winding and doing back up the Soar as we met a number of boat with sorry tails to tell about the water levels between Kings Lock and Gees Lock and a chap who said it took him 3 days to get through Foxton.

Welcome to the Forum Chris.

Unless you meant to say 'back down the Soar' are you not heading towards the low pounds?

Ah, that reminds me of September 1989. Five days to get from Leicester to Foxton, empty pounds and 36 hours stuck in the mouth of Saddington tunnel.
