  1. Really? I know of two stretches of road (40/50 mph) where cyclists ride, sometimes two abreast, & there is a cycle path alongside the road.
  2. It's been said before, this type of programme is not for anyone who knows the inland waterways, it's for the general public who just want to see celebs crashing around the system. I don't believe that they stay onboard (haven't seen a meal cooked yet) & can only imagine that they need a 70 footer to house the film crew & equipment. When was this filmed? No sign of social distancing or masks. How did they manage to fly through the Harecastle tunnel without being checked? They also gave the impression that only one boat at a time is allowed in the tunnel. It's ok, if you accept that it's just light entertainment.
  3. Was I dreaming, or did Captain Birdseye in full uniform, help them through a lock? It's pretty clear that not a meal is taken or a night is spent on board. I don't think I saw them make a coffee. Also, did I see Gyles get off the boat to moor & find the centre line already waiting for him on the landing? It might be entertainment, but it ain't boating.
  4. Norton Canes Boatbuilders comes to mind, but would you want to be at the arse end of the BCN & not very far from Lichfield anyway?
  5. South of Leicester I would have thought.
  6. Not my daily paper. I just have the online version.
  7. It would appear that you don't use many canalside pubs then or the cafe at Fradley now called the Laughing Duck. Even in the upmarket Moorings there was an area that we could have taken the dog in. As it happens, we didn't.
  8. Reporting back after the short break last week. Didn't get very far, only as far as Long Itchington. It would have meant going up the Stockton flight only to come back more or less straight away. The 2 Boats was indeed very good & in fact we had meals there on 2 nights of the trip. The Cuttle is a strange place. We went in for a drink one lunchtime & it was deserted. They have moorings at the bottom of their garden & even though the towpath moorings were full. no boats moored there. On the way back we stopped at the Moorings pub in Leamington. It's a restaurant really, very good but pricey.
  9. No --- if they can't take a joke, they shouldn't have joined! We will give the Two Boats a try, thanks.
  10. Where is Nick Norman when you need him? I'm sure that his butler has inspected all the wine lists in the area.
  11. Many thanks for all the replies. We should be able to sort something out from all that. The break is from Tuesday afternoon until Saturday morning & is indeed from Warwick so the crew will have to work!
  12. Not interested in 'pile the food high & sell it cheap'. Decent food & a nice Merlot old chap.
  13. I'm taking the other half & two friends --- all novice boaters ---- on a short break in September. Going from Kate Boats at Warwick & heading towards Braunston. I haven't been on this part of the G.U. for many years, so, any canalside pubs worth stopping at? Dog friendly if possible.
  14. I was working at Stratford on Avon & walked over both the basin & the river. Happy days.
  15. Don't see why not, if it's allowed by the owner/licensee. A lot of pub bars & the cafe at Fradley for example. But that's your choice.
  16. As one of the 'plonkers' who posts quite often on Tripadvisor, I have to say that I find it useful. I would think that at least 3/4 of my reviews are praise & I have had many people who have found my reviews helpful. If I am going to a strange hotel, I always check the reviews to get a 'feel' for the place. I think that the vast majority of reviews are fair, although you are always going to get a few people with an axe to grind.
  17. Just as a point of order, it's Andersen Boats. Think that the name comes from Norway or Sweden.

  20. Oops -- have done that on the odd occasion. As someone said, it goes back to hotel rooms when they just had a basin in the room. If I may quote a verse from Foster & Allen's, Seven Old Ladies Locked in the Lavatory The next old lady it was Mrs Mason She couldn't get in so she used the basin And that was the water that I washed my face in And nobody knew they were there Edit for typo
  21. Must be right ---- Tim West says so as he crashes around the L&L
  22. Having a bit of a problem seeing the point of this thread. Surely you just make your merry way & if there are volockies, it's a bonus. Even if they are working that day, you may go through during their break.
