  1. Keira our Munsterlander is off at every lock, she is never on a lead because she is well trained so if you say sit she does and if you call her she will come. She crosses locks at will and never has a life jacket. She does have a harness with a D ring which only gets used if we are on a river so I can use a boat hook if she does fall in. She has only ever fell in twice, both times when she was new to boating. We would never be without her. We always have one eye on her and try to anticipate any potential problems and WE ALWAYS PICK UP HER POO!!
  2. Personally I do not think the CART requirement for a CC is very difficult of a bona fide boater to achieve. If you loose sleep over CART telling you that you are not continuously cruising then you are probably not continuously cruising.
  3. Paying Council Tax is not just about rubbish bins. It is about local funding for Fire Services, Police, Parks, Play Areas, Adult Social Services, support for local small businesses so that local shops stop open, grass cutting of open spaces, street cleaning, community centres and much more. These are the things that help make a community a community. If you permanently live in a community and you earn enough to be expected to contribute to these things, what reason could you give to object? Everyone else in the community that can, does. Why not you?
  4. We are planning our next year cruise and have decided to go down the Trent and back to the Trent and Mersey via one of the Pennine routes. We have a list of pro and cons for the Leeds Liverpool, Rochdale and Huddersfield and still cannot make up our minds. I would like to here your experiences and preferences.
  5. Today we are still Great Britain. 10% is a large enough majority to end this debate. We stay Great Britain! end of story. Much more devaluation for Scotland. We now have to have English votes for English laws. The mood in England is clear. If the Labour part cannot live with this they will not have any chance of winning the next election.

  6. We only plan on a short trip down the Trent to Keadby Lock and then back over the Pennines. I know we are supposed to have one on the tidal waters but do we need one?
  7. Not the best summer cruise for us this year. First attempt - Shardlow to Alrewas - return home with ear infection. Attempt 2 - Shardlow to Fazley - water pump fails and empties fresh water tank into boat - Attempt 3 Shardlow to Welford (went clockwise had seen enough of Willington) - macerator pump failed had to leave boat and buy a new toilet (old pump obsolete). Only managed to do Leicester ring. The good news is the weather was great, the Ashby was wonderful and the people are a joy to be with. Next year will be even better
  8. My mobile phone is now fixed and working!

  9. Here is original link, should have no malware http://www.robship.com/en/products/HookMoor.aspx
  10. So our original plan for the summer cruise on NB Tilly May have so far not worked out as expected. The journey so far:-Shadlow to WillingtonWillington to AlrewasAlrewas to ShardlowShardlow to WillingtonWillington to Fradley JunctionFradley Junction to FazzleyFazzley to Fradley JunctionFradley Junction to Shardlow I think we will head up the Soar next time!

  11. Does anyone know if the water point at the Hope & Anchor works? It was in dispute the last time me passed that way.
  12. Nobody in their right mind would put forward a business case to build and open a marina in the middle of a field. The only thing that would make the plan possible would be a link to a CaRT controlled resource. Without the link the marina is worthless. CaRT are responsible for the upkeep of the network so of course the business must contribute. How the business recoups the contribution is irrelevant. Connect to the network then pay. If CaRT have inherited some agreements that make no contribution I am sure they will work to correct this if and when they can.
  13. No. I am suggesting they scrap the NAA and put up licence fees for all. Is that not like suggesting that the country scraps business rates and collects the shortfall by increasing Council Tax?
