Daftmare
Hi, We are thinking of moving our mooring and Abingdon Marina appear to have spaces. Does anyone know this marina? Also, if we only have a river licence, can we pay on a daily/weekly basis to visit the South Oxford? Presumably we pay the lock keeper when we get off the Thames? Sorry, three questions instead of one. Jo.

(or a 30 day sort explorer type licence) http://www.britishwaterways.co.uk/license-...t-term-licences If you're looking for moorings, and want to be on the Thames, then there is probably space going here. http://www.bossoms.co.uk/ I moor near there, and there appears to be spaces. It's a nice location.
WJM
Nothing totally useful for you here, but do check out the cost of a Gold License. I am primarily on BW waters but it takes only a very small number of trips onto EA water for me to be 'ahead' financially. I did cost it out properly and it only takes a few weeks for me to reach break-even with the Gold License.

Many thanks Yes, we have a Gold Licence at the moment, but know that we will spend more time on the Thames and R. Wey, so was looking to make savings (to pay for the cost of the expensive marina berth!). Jo.

Daftmare
Abingdon Marina looks pretty. Yeah, I thought that too Not sure just how secure it would be though, will all the houses around it. We've not been up to look at it yet. Just seen pictures. J. I dont think you can liveaboard there though.

We are not looking for residential, but stay overnight from time to time where we are now. Waiting to hear what Abingdon's rules and regs are on this. Jo. Now just got to convince my husband that the M25/M40 trip is not that bad... One question for you, as you are in this area. What do they (Bossoms) mean by saying that we could access the lower reaches of the Thames below Oxford "subject to air draught" ?? Jo.

Bossoms is quite a no thrills boat-yard, no electricity there, although there is water. And it's on Port Meadow. By the air draught - they mean that you have to pass under Osney Bridge to get to Bossoms http://www2.mihalis.net/canal/cgi-bin/gaze...here=$jq7b http://www.riverthames.co.uk/about_thames/3755.htm Osney Bridge, a few hundred yards from the lock, has the lowest clearance of all Thames bridges at 7ft 6in at Head Water - large craft cannot travel any higher. Only narrowboats, small cruisers and most unpowered craft can gain access upriver.

But worth having a look. Thanks for the recommendation. Jo.
grahoom
also there is Osney Marina (no idea if they have any spaces for narrow boats) - http://www.boatlaunch.co.uk/default.aspx?p...amp;nodeid=1229 and there is the boatyard near eynsham - OXFORD CRUISERS - 01865 881698 - they might have spaces (that's where my boat used to be moored, until I moved it to Bossoms, and now I've found private mooring for the boat). WJM
"Waiting to hear what Abingdon's rules and regs are on this." Rules and Regs are unlikely to match the actual practice on the ground. Better to skulk around the marina and ask some of the other boaters what goes on. Planing conditions often impose restrictions that marina owners must appear to pay a public lip service to.

grahoom
Thanks for this. Were you happy with Bossoms before you found the private mooring? J. Yes, - but they did move my boat one time with out informing me (well I got a letter two days after the boat was moved - so I guess they did inform me... ) - That irritated me at the time, as the location of my mooring before they moved the boat was better. I was moored there from Feb - Sept last year.
