GeoffS
I am thinking of going up the Leicester Arm from Norton to Foxton and maybe beyond for a week or so in August. Looking at maps and guides there don't seem to be that many shops, and more importantly, pubs on the way. Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences? Richard T
Don't miss the Welford arm - good pub at end small shop in village. For general shopping go down to Market Harborough its a bit of a walk from the basin to the town but worth the effort - ther aren't many things you can't buy there. adam1uk
There aren't many shops or pubs along that stretch. There are a couple of each in Crick, just up from Bridge 12, and there's also Edwards restaurant next to the canal. Yelvertoft has a little village shop and an excellent butcher (walk down the hill from Bridge 19). There's also a pub in Yelvertoft, but haven't been to it. There's a pub at the end of the Welford Arm, and a very strange little shop in the village. There are pubs at Foxton Locks and in Foxton village, and as Richard says Market Harborough has everything you need. The town centre is a bit of a walk down the hill from the basin. loner
We were in Foxton last October. There is a restaurant, a couple of shops and a small museum about an incline waterway that the locks replaced. Market Harborough is just a few miles from Foxton where you will find many shops, pubs, churches, restaurants and a big grocery store. Nice people there too. Its only a few blocks to the city center. If you go on google earth there are pictures of the locks and the basin in Market Harborough. There isn't much to see or do before or after foxton for many miles. Let us know how it goes. loner Edited July 1, 2008 by loner
