I saw this on a New Zealand registered steel yacht in Mytilene harbour this morning, I've not seen this style before.

That looks very much like a Manson Supreme anchor.

It was designed and patented in NZ but is sold worldwide.

Supreme Anchor (SHHP) - Manson Anchors NZ

It is considered to be one of the best 'latest generation' anchors along with the Mantus (which some of us on the forum have)

The slider in the shank is a good idea but in actual use it is disappointing as it doesn't work as planned and, weakens the anchor.

From memory the 25kg version cvosts around £800

I know a few who have fallen for the hype (for one season) but then changed to the Mantus.

About the Manson Supreme Anchor

Posted

A New Zealander called Peter Smith introduced an anchor called the Rocna back in 2004, the rollbar was the distinguishing feature. Rocna encountered years of hostility from British yatchsmen due to its new thinking, eventually it caught on along with the Manson Supreme with a similar rollbar.

Funny you posted that a day after I posted the link.

Maybe if I'd put it on U-tube you'd have got to it earlier.

You linked to the Manson, I offered a broader history about its close design cousin the Rocna. I purchased a Rocna in 2006 despite all the gnashing of teeth on YBW.com at the time about weird new-age anchors. I was able to drop a size because of the superior holding compared to the trad yachting anchors that had dominated British yachting for decades.

Although the OP thought the anchor in his photograph was novel, I was letting him know these new-age designs have been eclipsing the trad designs for 20 years both in terms of holding performance, setting speed and market adoption.

Rocna stumbled as a business about 15 years ago when they chose to outsource production to China and then suffered reputational damage due to manufacturing faults, mine was an early model from before the Chinese outsourcing. Rocna's commercial troubles delighted the old men of YBW.com who were still refusing to accept anchor design had improved in the 21st century. The libelous commentary online lead to legal action and the owners of YBW.com had to moderate anchoring threads closely out of concern they would get dragged into litigation as the publisher.

There are years of learning ahead of you before I consider you to be an accomplished yachtsman.

Better get down to it Alan! You really can't stay a total novice much longer now you've heard from an expert.

How long is it now you've been a danger to everyone on lumpy waters?

Judging from his childlike obsession with U-tube I have been sailing / motor cruising on lumpy waters from before he was a gleam in his Father's eye.

Your frequent claims to have me on your ignore list would have more credibility if you managed to resist from responding until someone else quoted my post.

I do not have you, (or anyone) on ignore - maybe you just wish I did so I would not respond to the unadulterated rubbish you spout.

I was replying to an @Arthur Marshall post. He is becoming the male @LadyG with his frequent hostile posts based on mention of his ignore list.

I had logged more than that offshore by January 1987 when we dropped anchor in Martinique, not bad for a yet to be conceived human.

Your learning curve would improve if you discovered the function of tall alloy extrusion held up with wires. It is called a mast BTW

My innocent posting about a New Zealand registered yacht with an interesting anchor has morphed into a quasi politics and current affairs spat!

You did it deliberately!

My kedge is very similar, minus the slot.

I won't mention the brand in case it kicks off again.

Fair enough - my mistake !

I don't think I've mentioned he's on my ignore list recently. He is, of course, but sometimes I just can't resist poking the silly old bear so I have a quick look to see if he's grown up yet. Fat chance.

I really posted the photo in all innocence, but I'm enjoying the ensuing willy waving!
