Sir Percy
I like wrapping a jacket potato in foil and putting it into the stove to bake. However, getting the skin crispy and not burnt is a hit-or-miss affair. Does anybody have a reliable method?

I wrap mine in foil and bury it in a nearly-full ashpan of a ticking-over stove for an hour or two. Can't remember if the skin is crispy but ash-pan spuds are sublimely delicious, far better than oven-baked spuds. For reliably crispy skin I'd say finish in the oven on max temp for 15 mins. Sir Percy
I'd have to use smaller spuds, but the ashpan sounds like a good idea. Couldn't agree with you more, there's something about a stove-baked potato which makes them more delicious.

Sir Percy
Of course. Perfect, that also does away with turning them.
GUMPY
Totally reliable method. For a single medium potato 5 minutes in microwave Spray with fry lite sprinkle of salt 10 minutes in the Air fryer at 180. Adjust times depending on size/number of potatoes
Mike Hurley
I will be doing some later today in the barbeque ashes, wrapped in foil, always great.

Machpoint005
What effect do these strange methods have on the skins? I do like a nice leathery jacket, which is what you get when you bake a spud properly ... in an Aga.
