Nice little house by the River with some conifers..Date unknown. This was a residence which was later used as a resort/country club.

No it was knocked down sometime around 1950 I think. The little park still shows some signs of having been a garden including a landing stage with very attractive patterned tiles.

Another very similar house was Formosa which was demolished in 1949. There is a lodge there still but no mansion.

2023. Mansion gone. A small lodge is there instead.

Probably the same cedar tree. Remains of the ornate landing stage.

Hard to believe but houses of size were very hard to sell at all from the 40s into the late 50s. Huge house with acres of land and a large lake next to where we used to live suffered that. No one would pay anything for it. It was pulled down in the mid 50s.

Nearby is a Manor House with 30+ acres  that sold for £5. , yes a fiver in 1951. It was bought by a Cotswold stone roofer as they were one of very few able to repair the stone roof of the house, or live in a cold house as heating was relatively pricey . I know his son, also a roofer. They sold it for a lot more in the late sixties.

It’s worth 10-15 million or so now.
