Prestolee (Nob End) Locks - rise and fall?

Featured Posts

I'm just writing a short paper about the canal at Nob End, and wondered what the depth of the locks was (pictured) - for those not in the know they were sequential three rise staircases.

It's not essential to what I'm writing as that's about the breach round the corner, but I just wondered if anyone knew - I can't find a figure.

Also wondered if they closed when the breach happened (the canal is now dry above them) or whether the canal at the top was rewatered to allow traffic to Bolton, again not essential as I'm writing about the breach as it is now, not the history of it, but I'm curious!

Thanks all

The Meccano Bridge is an interesting feature and blends modern restoration with the cobbles around the corner on the canal to Bolton

But as to the breach. It seemed to be a significant destruction of that part of the canal.
