monkeyhanger Posted September 20, 2022 Report Posted September 20, 2022 I need to refit a screw-in connector to my diesel tank. Many years ago I used to use red Hermetite as a joint sealant, but it seems to be no longer available. What do people use nowadays, please?
BEngo Posted September 20, 2022 Report Posted September 20, 2022 Heldite, or the Tru Blu stuff Toolstation sell are best for diesel. Hylomar or Wellseal work if you are in straits. PTFE tape, of the water or gas type, are not suitable for diesel, though they do work for a while. N
Ex Brummie Posted September 20, 2022 Report Posted September 20, 2022 When I serviced oil boilers, I always used to remake joints with a wrap or two of ptfe tape and supplement this with Heldite. Red hermetite, and its replacement red Hylotite are non hardening sealants, better suited to gas joints.

I did a search for Hermetite on these forums and found Tru Blu was recommended, as it has been this time. I've bought some. Thank you to all who replied. Good old Canalworld yet again!
