I was thinking the same!

Down here in the industrial south, I was grounding along the bottom of some of the locks in the Napton flight going uphill and the pounds didn't even seem that low. In a boat drawing about 2ft 10in, or so I estimate.

I have read that the engineer who built the Rocdale knew water might be an issue so dug the summit pound extra deep to act its its own mini reservoir.

The top gates on the summit locks don't look especially deep, but I expect a fair bit deeper than the Oxford. I will measure next time I am there.

Phew! Made it over Summit 1/2 hour before the stoppage. Summit pound down almost 3ft. Plenty water below apart from the viaduct pound at Tod which was empty - paddles left up on the lock. Four Rochdale stoppages since Monday does it get like this anywhere else?

Well done 👍 glad you made it.

Worth the effort though ain’t it ?

It’s stunning up there.

How on earth did you get through in a foot of water -- is your boat a punt?

20" goes through puddles

One advantage of low water is that the wolves can't reach that far down to eat you.

All three Pennine crossings closed again. I hope nobody is trying to get back to base before the Winter program starts. Doesn't get any better but at least we have nice new signs on the locks.
