Why? They're travelling in a concrete-lined channel and their purpose is to move commuters reasonably quickly, not to waft at 3-4mph along English canals with fragile banks...

I went on one of the canal boats when I was in Bangkok. Trust me, the main commuter canal boats are nowhere near as nice as that! You will be the only non-Asian using them.
