Athy
A greeno for the brilliant thread title! Fortunately, once you reach the main Napton flight, descent is usually pretty quick, with in-out up-down all the way if you're lucky.

Athy
What a pity that the topic title has been changed, as it was very appropriate in the circumstances.
Keeping Up
Sounds like a good idea for a blues song, "I woke up this morning, found 12 boats before me, Oh Yeah man I've got the Marston Doles" Just to add to the OP's dolorous feeling, we got there at 3pm yesterday and there was just one boat ahead of us going into the lock and then we went straight down.
