Yesterday 2023 on the Mont

spacer.png

This is a brilliant restoration of the The Restorer's memorystone. I had seen pictures of it before, and assumed it was a photograph under perspex or similar, instead of brushed steel with an etched image. Well Done WRG 🙂

Towingpath was popular today

spacer.png

and some paddlers enjoying the view. Our boat failed to spot these two who were very low down, and they got off on to the towingpath to let us by.

Paddling was not popular with the steerer of the tripboat, who thought the increased traffic disrupted the tripboat scedule and increased queues at either end. Paddlers also take longer.

There are signs prohibiting paddleboards, and when tackled on the issue, the paddleboarders thought it precluded only those standing up. Either interpretation could be right. ... Other prohibitions are clearer. Do Not Climb The Parapet - not that anyone would sensibly want to, and if they were so minded, the sign would have little effect. No horseriding, no bicycling, no abseilling ... The diamond in the circle is probably an all-purpose If It Is Fun Don't Do It On Our Aqueduct ...

Froncysyllte Lift Bridge No 28W

In the days of the old wooden bridge, the system was to throw a rope over the balance beam here and haul it down. Not so much fun with a windlass ... particularly this one which needs seventy turns, and the hydraulics are leaky so it needs more turns to keep it fully raised as the boat passes through. _sigh_
