  1. I presently have very smooth laminated ply as a shower cubicle which I've tried to rough up but it is very hard.. Plan to re face it with Geopanel. Which sealant/glue would you recommend please - I guess it has to be non solvent. Spoke to their tech guy who recommended "stick-it-all" and coat the laminate with PVA. In my little experience I thought PVA needed a porous surface to soak into and "Stick it all" looks like something for the odd light jobs around the boat. OK tell me I have it completely wrong and I'll do as the Techy guys says.
  2. I would vote for something that has a happy meaning to your family. We went for my Mothers nick name "Rubble Queen" given to her by the dustbin men. Only problem is you have to explain the names origin at every other lock. Best stick to Kingfisher for a quiet life.

  5. He was a "fairy" last year and that freaked the parents out.
  6. I've been made redundant as Father Christmas at the local Garden Centre - they prefer to use one of their own staff - don't have to pay him. The boy is only 17 - imagine usurped by a kid is there no justice for us old uns? So can I join your gang and go and get him?

  8. Thanks for all your advice much appreciated and will investigate further. But will definitely have the sump very shallow - May look to see if there is anyone around who can line the shower tray mould with fibre glass. Paauline doesn't want a stainless steel as she thinks it will always look stained. (That was my first option before wondering about building it out of wood.
  9. Just wondered if anyone has built a shower tray - would a wooden one work? With a sump to take the small bilge pump. Any ideas would be most appreciated. Unable to find any commercial trays that will fit in the space.

  11. Hard to see but if it's air cooled then there are two (only looks like it) vents on the side. and you catch the cill doesn't take much to have water coming in those vents. Hard to see so may have it wrong. But mine is the same and I spend half my time ensuring anyone on the helm concentrates and keeps away from the cill. Is the blue "tube" in the lock something to do with the pumps? Rotten luck hope they get themselves sorted OK.
  12. Wolverhampton - fast as possible - if you have to stay the night go in the CRT yard. Birmingham - slow as you like great place.

  14. Thank you Des that has given me the best laugh for ages, def cheered my day, which was going good anyway as off to the boat today. What if we started wearing Lycra on the boats?
  15. HYot water I'd go or a LPG combi boiler so pleased with mine - so convenient

  17. Just a thought but what if CRT spent it's logging time by concentrating solely on the mooring areas that have a time restriction. Forget about who has and hasn't cruised far enough but ensure the designated time moorings are used correctly with a time limit as to when you can return. The parking wardens do it round our streets so can't be that hard. This way the people who are using their boat for living on and have to pretend to be CCers can tow path moor after all they contribute in the licence fee just as much as the rest of us and I agree their boat takes up space somewhere. If there is a particular problem in any one area then put a time limit along that tow path.
  18. Thanks all - sorry to mislead you but I only planned on putting the charger on while I am on the boat - either for a week end or half a day. While away I unplug the shore line and remove the isolator switch. Consider getting a solar panel. Will be going up the boat Sunday so will check out what the batteries are.
  19. Ok I have a Halfords Fully Automatic battery charger which says " Suitable for all 12v automotive lead and deep cycle leisure batteries including gel type" " - bought to charge up my leisure batteries -just wanted to check that I have bought the correct charger \AND when charging the batteries can I do the leisure bank all in one hit or do I need to separate them? When doing the starter battery do I need to disconnect it from the shared earth? Should I recharge every time I go up about once a month over the winter. I'm sure these questions have been asked before but I couldn't find the answers so thanks in advance. Tony
  20. Thanks for that so would they keep a record as to how many boats have their licence refused for not complying as against those that just don't renew their licence for whatever reason? Or would they all be lumped together. Just curious as to if CRT see none compliance as a huge problem .
  21. Are there any figures to show how many people have had their boat removed by CRT for not CCing? I've seen several clearly abandoned boats pulled out and guess they come under not having a licence rather than not moving.
  22. Maybe I'll just give this idea a miss and keep on shovelling.
  23. I know I've been picking it up for the last hour, in fact nearly every day forever! Would like my labour to have a more positive outcome. It this a business opening?
  24. Yes my dogs eat it also along with any other disgusting stuff they can find out in the countryside. Maybe if burning it you may be compelled to become a CC.
