  2. I have seen on a few boats the carver cascade type unit fitted, these were boats which were for sale whilst out gongoozling. I wonder if anyone has them on a boat. I had one in a caravan once and to be fair it worked very well? martin
  3. Hi folkes, I thought i would ask if anyone has any old mx40 spares kicking around ??? I have an old mx40 which im starting out on seeing if it can be resurected, it doesent seem to bad ? but needs the fuel inlet to boiler housing where the glow plug sits as it snapped off where it reduces down to fit fuel union. I know there available new but as uncertain what else may be wrong i thought id try here first. Thanks regards Martin

  5. The nb i bought sank (allegedly weed hatch was loose )I heard several accounts of it sinking, it was approx 13 months after the date it sank i Purchased, and for 8 weeks i was still moving mud before i found the Perkins d3 lol it was full of water, gbox full of watee fuel tank yup 200 litres of water but amazing as it sounds removed one solid alternator and starter, spentjust a couple of hours on engine and it runs like beautifully well if you can call a d3 152 perkins running beautifully lol, change all oils and filters clean/bleed fuel lines. rebuild starter (if u need a new 1 ) pm me i know a chap who has stock to clear. Run engine to temp and drain the lot and change again inc oil filter. Run again from cold to temp for 3 hrs and change again. All will be well imo, good luck kind regards Martin
  6. Yup I also guess perhaps if bolts are used they may be of the stretch type, although a bodge i have overcome this at the side of the road by removing one bolt at a time and fitting thick penny washers to accomodate . Just a thought ??
  7. Hello and welcome. Firstly I feel for you, I am not apt enough to comment on your post as many on this forum will soon cast far better advice than i can offer. Like you I spent many , too many visits to marinas searching. And im sure you will have several people post several views, that will differ which will lead to several several discussions. However i truly believe you will gleen some good advice and more. For my own part, visiting the fore mentioned to view boats, i must of been a dozen times if not more and i left learning more and more. On 3 occasions i was keen on certain lower priced craft. And all i can say is these craft were almost non negotiable on price ? Unless survey was done first. That said could be acceptable, but not for me as im a prat and think price first then spend to knock em again !!! nothing wrong with that in my eyes as for me its worked so far. But just before i gave up going to said area to view boats everything seemed for a while, sold with a full survey ???? and many boats apparently to my untarined eye, may of been blacked or indeed had plating done to satisfy surveys.I seem to remember? these craft roughly at the same price as seen before ??? But include survey. ??? Im just airing my personal observations which promted me to no longer seek to purchase from the like. Your experience, and my views do seem to tie a couple of point ? I wish you good luck, Better future expereiences, and a boat that brings youy smiles and contenetment. regards Martin
  8. Thanks To all for your input, I wonder as still fitting out and very high up at the bow due to dry tanks and no gas bottles etc if this makes a diffrence? I shall be concentrating on the elecrics now until christmas so wil do some more practice in the new year??? thanks again Martin
  9. I remeber pushing my old garelli Tiger up and down the road untill miles later it started, the man who sold it to me, said if you can get it to start it flys along, He did not tell a lie, as it could once started rally really fly nearly 68 lol. Young ? A young couple maybe with child ? who knows? (nieve) thats young nothing else, i remember, how hard to aspire to have a home a nest, somewhere of your own, that was a long time ago. But i do feel anger at the person who stood there and counted out there money to check it was all there and send them away with little or no idea of what they have entered into. Its good to read such an honest appraisal from the boat yard, but its description some way also troubles me ? Ive not seen an advert to sell something. which details dont (sell) it ??? this advert seems to warn people off buying it. I guess there being very upfront and thats all I hope. I wish the young couple my sympathy and best wishes, thats all i can offer. For the seller ( i best keep those views to myself ) and keep my judgement within my own court.
  10. When where to start HOW ?? So today after 4 days of working on the boat, i decided to go out up the canal for a bit of me time and rudder engine etc, to enjoy a moment of enjoying motion instead of just working on it. because i could, practice is well needed, having been out several times omly a few miles at a time, I have learnt some basics and manage to of sorts control direction. To leave my mooring on a finger mooring i reverse out slowly straight and when nearly clear engage forward to bring the bow around slightly to the position /angle to then select reverse again? once away from moorings i manage to pull up at bankside along canal with no drama. but today i was in open water Glos sharpness and just tried going reverse and steering??? wow didnt get control? in reverse the bow allways seemed to drift starboard if i gave it lots of wellie the stern would creep to port, but at the same time bow go starboard , If changed rudder direction the bow excellarated same direction? The lock keeper (cart employee/volunteer) watching me may earn 250,00 lol if his camera was working? I spent 20 minutes trying to learn charicteristics of direction and in all honestly I failed In reverse the tiller straight it seems to go straight at slow revs anything above idle to half power is a mistery !!!!!! regards Martin
  11. Hi folkes, having read many threads on here it seems many use three 3 as there internet provider, i have been with orange for 11 years nearly, eligible for an upgrade, i can honestly say my experience with orange has been first class, really could not fault it. Some 6 yrs ago i guess i took out a premier account contract, and over due course and subsequent renewals, they have often quoted to me if i had to call for whatever reason ( as a premier account holder etc ) bla bla this (premier ) seemned to stick until now? Im simply due for upgrade but contract ends Jan, have 2 phones with orange. I call in for advice and whats new etc??? plan upgrade and options? Orange left me feeling that its time to look elsewhere, so i start to research forums etc, but it seems most networks are slated by there customers ?? especially 3. I pay 26.00 a month for a land line and internet, ive made 2 calls on l/l in 18 months, i pay orange 35.00 inc insurance and get lots and good customer service. But if i read and understand correctly il get 3 txts calls and lots n lots of data for 33.00 ? Whats also troubling is orange could not offer insurance whilst upgrading ? there insurance was unavailable until a later date???? Im sure there are many that can offer advice, was tempted by 3 deal , but ive been a loyal customer and its customer service I wish for most. thanks if youve managed to read this to the end kind regards Martin
  12. Pmsl  Slightly off topic, can any one please explain the pipe arrangements on install of a p/o tank, They often come up on ebay ??? having never used a pump out station or indeed installed a tank, on my n/b i have the deck fitting for a p/o tank and next to it exeting sideways i guess the breather??? Does the pump out pipe from tank to said fitting have to be directly below ? and as straight as possible or is it possible to have say 4foot of pipe with a few bends init ??? regards Martin
  13. Hi folks id just thought id share my experience of buying from china, previously had good service, but my latest purchase (tracer 45 amp charge controller and meter ) This was my 3rd attempt as the first two companies received my order and payment, and both returned payment swiftly due to lack of stock. Evenyually at An icrease of £30. i ordered from Misol, and made payment on the evening of the 26 October delivery could be 30 days. Ive tracked the shipment, 16.28 29/10 12 collected 18.34 item processed china republic !8.35 cleared process 20.22 arrived @ and cleared at sort process 30/10/12 05.53 East china process peoples republic 05.54 depart process east china peoples republic 20.29 Arrive Heathrow sort facility 20.58 heathrow clearance complete 21.34 heathrow processing complete 31/10/12 00.05 deapart facility London Heathrow destination Hub bristol??? I think thats service, and am surprised how quick and efficient it all seems, however its not here yet so time for things to go pear shaped yet eh.. Intrestingly, i guess theres a whole new style of mppt controlers due to hit the markets, and shortly. thats why this model was sold out, alibaba list the up and comming but at nearly £100 more im happy (hopefully) with the spec on the one ordered. Some of the new ones do appear to be proper most though with greater scope for exspansion with built in vdu etc ...
  14. Hidave i believe it to be a basic samsung model dressed up. try looking up samsung B2100. edge quad band small screen slow to text, has internet but to small to view. handy little torch and battery lasts well. about £45.00 sim free new check tescos or amazon Its a basic phone and no frills handles working life well and damp resistant hope this helps
  15. I may be wrong ? but i think an early series type landrover one will fit, if u troll ebay u will find a couple of sellers who include several cross referance lists, thats how i sourced one for my old perkins, as for the oil ? when the engine was made 20/50 was the norm i guess??? but oil technolgy has come on in leeps and bounds since, i think any light oil for a normal assperated diesel engine would/should suffice. Im sure more informed will offer advice good luck
  16. If i may, when funds are low? it pays to search around and search around again. Ive ordered from china some silly things, too in a way get to build on trust and confidence with suppliers, ie currently awaiting delivery 45amp tracer and meter for solar installation at snip fo 150 beer tokens delivered. Ive ordered cable trunking, some wonderfull wire distribution points, level censors etc etc. When i purchased ny nb the engine was solid and full of water (as nb sank ) the assumtion was knackered ?? reality fortuneatly was diffrent. However at the time i had just spent every penny purchasing boat, and the engine was to be purchased on a credit card So i searched, at the time i was working on a small imported tractor from china. Thanks to nthis i eventually realised it was a copy of my boat engine exact copy massey ferg35 i think ?? an eveing on allibaba sourcing marine engines prices well. 3 cylinder perkins copy mated to a prm gbox inc control pannel and loom and battery delivered to uk port £895.00 yes £895.00, if it were an isuzu copy with box and loom and pannel £1209.00 now dont get me wrong there copies, just like the little unbreakable tractor. I also note a certain british diesel engine manufacture once from dursley gloucester, has a new range of pictures identicall to those sent to me
  17. R3236 r3234, I ordered unsure if correct at time of order but having now removed x1 seal it has the blue id marker so exactly the same, thankyou for posting a link, hope it helps people.
  18. Ha ha ok honestly dont know how to do links, and im sure my fingers are becoming increasingly more dyslexic lol The company receipt address which i have no relationship, The window and door company Barncoose Redruth Cornwall sales@windowrepairshop.co.uk regards Martin
  19. Many of the window rubbers on our 1993 boat are either shot or missing, local chandlers had nothing, and although exstreamly helpfull worcester marine had none, he advised that boats of that age had thicker glass and smaller seals, now equipped with thinner dlass and thicker seals. One company a seal specialists for cars and almost ecerything else had some but at £3.00 a mtr plus p&p. well for those who may also need some ive found through ebay a company in cornwall who supplied the exact seal for windows and portholes for a £1 a mtr with free delivery. not sure if i can name on here so pm me if its off intrest to you regards Martin ps super fast service too
  20. Hi There I think even as a newbie the more boats you look at the more you will quiclky learn and start to realise whats what. I perhaps became quite a gongoozler over a couple of years visiting marinas in and around the country, dreaming .. This was in reality was a dream as financially as i couldnt see me ever affording a n/b. But the days spent werent wasted. From old damp wrecks, romantic views with boatmans cabins, smelly engine ols or modern plasti type caravan interior boats each one you look at and poke around in will allow you to learn something. And the people you will encounter will feed you with in depth knowledge, some who cover up things i think youl be able to spot soon enough. Our boat is 1993, it was in dry dock back in march, where i asked the yard to specificly examine the hull. I was prepared to have it tested for thickness ultrasonicly, once blasted clean the yard phoned me and said, not to spend money on thickness testing as in my case simply not necessary. I wish you luck in your search, and enjoy the viewings, spend time on the boats you view, open every cupboard and draw, look in places you cant? and you will find the right one for you and your budget. Lol mine was found at the bottom of the river seven regards Martin
  21. that was the one i think ? im checking emails now to check
  22. Great Reply informative and helpfull, thank you very much. Found a Tracer on ebay shop with a meter, delivered 149.
  23. Hi folks, I have just purchased two 235 watt panells (voc36.7) (isc 8.36) (vmp 29.76) (imp 7.8A) , from the reading threads on here it would be better for mttp controler, but as i search the bay etc there is not many controllers below 50 amp that would handle 470 watts ? can anyone point me in the right direction, my funds cant stretch to the outback ones. Am i aiming to high with two panells and ought I stick to one ? Or in reality the panells could reach 470 watts max is that highly unlikely ?? confused .com . I thought I was doing the correct thing buying two panells for nb but perhaps i was wrong. as usual i appreciate any response and advice regards Martin To further my confusion, lol not difficult, i have spent an hour on allibaba in direct communication with two companys, one supplying (tracer) type prouduct who deffinately assures me a Max 30 A mppt would be more than enough, another company whose prouduct (appears) to be of a more commercial h/d prouduct inssists that 40 amp they make is not correct and recomend 60 ??? But I dont really understand the maths or the varients.
  24. I used to have a chainsaw and a strimmer do that, both had gauzez spark arrestors in the exhaust which were blocked, may be worth a look good luck, Martin
