Try phoning them and ask for tech assistance, I have a type 80 and just looking in my manual the mounting arrangement is just the usual fixed bracket at the back of alternator, a supporting strap at front bottom and the adjuster strap above. I cannot imagine there is a deal of difference between engine types in respect of the mounts for the alternator. Speaking to the tech support bods may well elicit the sort of response that you need ie "use one of these and just open up this hole or file a bit of here" Looking for a particular part number may well draw a blank but you just need to think laterally Phil

  6. cannot help out with the long number but you are quite right to assume that 950 is the length and 11.5 is the width. I suspect that the reason your belt does not carry the Barrus number is because it has been replaced at sometime with "another" make. I get belts from my local garage they are usually "Gates" belts who seem to produce a huge range of belts. Hope this helps. Phil

Trying to get my head round your cooling system, (I lived on a GRP river cruiser with raw water cooling for 10 years) the what form does your keel cooler take? from engine to calorifier then to what? is it a tank fixed to outside of hull or some such arrangement, a series of pipes or something? I assume the raw water cooling that exits through the exhaust enters boat via a weed filter of some sort then to a heat exchanger on the engine then out through the exhaust. The engine coolant passes through the heat exchanger (via pipes) then back into the engine, the engine coolant is self contained and only circulates through pipes in the calorifier and engine heat exchanger. It is unusual to have 2 pumps involved with engine cooling. Regarding the engine coolant pump, is this attached to and driven by the engine, (Jabsco is the most common) if it is just a normal impeller Jabsco type pump there should not be an issue with fitting the wrong way as the engine governs the direction of flow.   12. Just read all the posts on this thread and they all make sense. I have had this problem myself in the past and it proved to be a blocked filter. However I would advise against firing a extinguisher down the air intake (unless CO2) as the engine might get a bit humpy with being filled with powder also be very careful with the rag trick because you would be surprised just how much suck an engine has, it has been known in the past for engines to ingest a whole load of rag and again this is not good.

Oh I sort of see what you mean, though my UFO's have nothing in the hole, an upstand outside of the hole to prevent water ingress and the S/S UFO bit over the top has, as you know a load of holes around the outside to allow the passage of air, no fly screen though only the usual brass grill and trim inside on the head lining, mine have translucent centres which act as sort of bulls eyes, nice.   17. I am not sure about this but I believe that now the same rules (in law) apply to inland boats (the skipper there of) as apply to boats at see. It makes sense to me that anybody in charge of a large heavy lump of metal/GRP should be accountable in law for their actions and if they are impared by drink should feel the full force of the law. I dont think this can be right, I moored on the Broads for 10 years and all boats have "flying saucer" vents there are only a hand full of N.B's down there (or up there) with mushroom vents in fact our present N.B has "flying saucer" vents. I cannot imagine that the couple of thousand boats on the Broads will have to have major work done on the cabin roofs (could be wrong of course) Phil
  19. So sorry to hear this, Luctor Et Emergo also had this problem. Now I have left the Broads and am now in the Fens it is an issue that niggles away at me as there are a lot of boats down here that carry no name or number and who do you take a problem like this to. I had several hit and runs or hit and stops while on the Broads and the solution was easy, take boat name and number (they all carry them) and report to the Navigation Rangers, problem is sorted the same day as the Nav Ranger contact the Hire company to get the full hirers details including home address and the Hire company get in touch regarding repairs. There is no place to hide as the Nav Rangers are all over the rivers and Broads and justice is swift. One year 3 Ricko's wrecks full of travel agents staff on a company jolly were racing 3 abreast and playing "dodgems" they ended up getting impounded for 24 hours till their bosses came down to "have words" I just think it is a pity that some sort of similar protocol does'nt exist on other waters.   21. Yes, 13 years, 10 on The Broads now in the Fens, is it relevent? We have always said we would live on our boat not on the bank as many people do. I know all about wet gear, muddy boots etc but maybe we are lucky with our boat's layout and make use of the "lobby" we have at stern doors and bow doors. Phil
