  6. Coincidentally, the pub adjacent to Upware Marina is called the "Five Miles From Anywhere Inn ...", but it does have a bus stop. LCx
  7. Just moving this into General Boating, hold tight please LCx
  8. ... in which case there's also Upware Marina which might match your criteria. LCx

  10. Hi, Welcome to the forum - there's a minimum number of posts required before you can send PMs - reply to this post and you should be there. It might be worth starting a new thread with your query - it'll likely get more responses than chasing up a 2012 post. LCx

  16. How about enticing them off by leaving a trail of biscuit crumbs from the boat, out the door, and over the gang plank, across the towpath, and into the hedegrow? (and leave the rest of the biscuits to keep them there) - then upping pins and high-tailing it away from there before they finish the biscuits .... LCx .... but, if they're chocolate hob-nobs, then never mind the mice, eat the biccies yourself
  17. Interesting thread, but can we remember keep it good-natured, even if views differ? LCx
  18. Hi Shinypurple and welcome to the forum. I've moored at Nottingham Castle marina. I enjoyed my time there. The management are friendly and helpful. It'd be a great place to get used to a boat as there's pretty much all the facilities you could want on site (toilets, showers, laundry, elsan, pumpout, diesel, coal, gas, chandlery, slipway and covered wet dock, etc). David Mawby offers blacking at a reasonable rate and there other folk there that offer painting and mechanical work if needed. The marina has secure access and car parking is very close to the boats. The site is surprisingly very quiet - so long as you don't take a mooring near the main entrance end. There's a good sized Sainsburys that's just five mins walk away. There's also couple of chain pubs, restaurants and fast food outlets nearby too. There's a Premier Inn very near the marina as well. Nottingham has a large busy centre with loads of shops plus cinema, theatre, museum, ice rink/events arena, and many, many places to eat - there'll be plenty to do for a teenager. It's about 20 mins walking from the marina along the towpath right into the town centre (watch out for speedy cyclists). There are some busy canalside pubs in the centre and like most big towns the canal side in town feels like a bit of a different place after dark. For weekend cruising - a few folk like to go for a short trip through the town centre then turn right onto the Trent and spend the weekend moored on the steps. Going the other way, turning left out of the marina, there's some really nice cruising along the Nottingham and Beeston and then out onto the river and heading upstream to wherever takes your fancy really (junction with the Soar/Erewash or carry on to the Trent & Mersey - just depends how far you want to go in a day I suppose. 19. Hi Neil and Mary, Welcome to the forum You may find you get more answers if you start a brand new thread in the New to Boating section (rather than in this 12 year old thread, where it may get passed over when it comes to getting replies). It'll probably help with too, to be as specific as possible when it comes to locations you'd like to know more about, either for mooring or navigating. Good luck with the plans - and keep asking and searching in the forums LCx
  20. It does rather look more suited to the river. .... but it's starting at only 99p, and the advert says any offer from an enthusiast will be considered LCx It also mentions that the hull has been completely lined with fibreglass, "necessitating careful treatment of outer surface (largely complete but requiring final attention before entering water" ?
  21. I don't have any personal contacts, but I gather the Wey and Arun Canal Trust has reached agreements with landowners too http://www.weyandarun.co.uk/trust.php Moving this thread to History and Heritage, hold tight please. LCx
  22. Ah, ok. If you'd been heading in the opposite direction I might have had a suggestion. If you're carrying on southwards you might also want to post an enquiry on the London Boaters Facebook page (it covers quite a large area). LCx
  23. Hi, How far south on the southern GU are you? LCx
