I had an hour on a day boat, two months before I picked up my boat. I had my eldest son with me who had never been on a boat of any kind and whose enthusiasm was scary. After sitting in the boat in the marina drinking tea (hadn't brought anything else) for several hours, I realised that I was going to have to move, or book the boat into the marina for ever. Getting out of the marina was the most traumatic bit as we couldn't have been further away from the exit, and were surrounded by lots of shiny 'pride and joys', and I couldn't see how I was going to get my 'pride and Joy' out without disaster......but I did, and umpteen locks, two changes of crew ( all as clueless as me) and five days later I got my boat home. I must have been overtaken by absolutely everyone else on the system, but I took my time and learned as I went. I met loads of lovely people, and knew right from the beginning that I had made the right decision. Two years on I think that being thrown in at the deep end was the best thing that could have happened to me. Just go for it.
Sorry I can't be there to help......Happy locking
