  1. I always knew that the best species to angle for is the tench. Now proved in a national poll. Even the beautiful roach came in second. And the 3rd. position is held by the carp, way behind the best. Who else believes like myself that the tench is the most gorgeous looking species and one that gives its all in a fight. What I would like to know is where on our connected canal system can the largest can be found ? ?
  2. O/K Chop you got the kayak bit but what I'm interested in is the folding bike bit. To all who read this please can you tell me what is the best folding bike, smallest when folded, that can be found ? ? ?
  3. Just to keep this post moving along i.e. Anglers and Canal Boaters -- Rubbish ?? Why leave out the walkers. I have fished the canals for years especially the Lee Navigation where around Waltham Abbey I have sat and watched walkers drop / throw away huge amounts of fast food wrappers and containers which other walkers tried blaming on me, as it was within throwing distance from me. Amazingly the person who blamed it on me actually stood in front of me and unwrapped a packet of cigarettes and dropped the wrapper on the floor in front of me, And of course I just had to point it out, and also tell him that the only thing I leave behind was my footprints, and maybe a sprinkling of bait which the birds soon clear up willingly.
  4. Big Steve, I love ponds / lakes / meres / reservoirs but when you have overloaded garden ponds you have to feed the little buggers in the spring /summer / autumn otherwise they go very skinny very quickly. I'm lucky in that my koi / tench pond has a filter system which is under my greenhouse bench so I have no trouble with mine freezing over but I do get a nice ice effect from the return pipe.

  8. Not disagreeing with you. But there is the chance that a broker might (I AM NOT SAYING WILL ) be willing to be a bit lazy in the sales area if the owner needs to sell quickly. But then offers to buy it just to help you out. Then with a bit of T.L.C. can make a fair bit more.
  9. Went to check out a boat at Devizes Marina and when I asked them about the split they replied with "We are not selling it any more"
  10. JohnJo. Try using the " fastreply " OR "addreply" buttons, these do not add any of the "QUOTE" You can delete your own posts, using the "edit" button.
  11. Just adding the narrow boats numbers ,Trad, Semi Trad and Cru. on Apolloduck thats nearly 750 boats !!!
  12. Where and how to arrange for the panel to be set at 30 degrees , that is the question , then to face the sun ?? Thinking of a swivel hole in the roof, for the pipes to go through. With a box surround and the panel fixed within on a rack on the lid like the old type deck chairs so it can be lifted to charge and lowered for bridges or when leaving the boat, with a lockable lid to the roof. Just left with how to do the pipe work so the lid can swivel ?? Any ideas ?

  14. Trying to work out the cheapest overall way to recharge batteries and then thought what about water heating. Looking at the best way to heat water cheaply and started to research for solar power to do the job. With just outlay for the original equipment, which system would be the best ?? I found this http://www.eco-nomical.co.uk/index.htm but cannot work out the best way to fit it, or where on a narrow boat ? Can it be done? FREE hot water all year round ??
  15. In which way was I being racist ? John. The use of the English language being reduced by political correctness infuriates me. It is in the context of use that makes a word racist not the word itself.
  16. Most of the books that I own (at least 99%) have "Tench" somewhere in their title.
