We are having our butty done by PJ BARBER at sheet stores,he put a 20" bit in last winter and this year he is chopping of the back end which i made and doing a more traditional back end.

I don't think he was on anything i think he had forgotten to take something! As you say care what care.

I have to tell you all about yesterdays "little" incident .We had moored at Fenny Stratford for the night,We started to get ready to go about 8am,The plan was to leave the boats breasted up go through the locks fill with water and dump rubbish we were untieing a strange fellow came down the path and said something to Ruth she said she didn't know what he had said and just told him "no",he then came past me muttering something or other and went to the hire boat on the lock landing talked to the ladies on the front telling them that if they gave hive a cup of tea he would give them a Puppy!they said no and he walked of to the lock.I said to Ruth i'll do the lock you bring the boats as she was not to happy at this fellow walking round the lock. Meanwhile the fellow has been over the bridge on the lock turned round and has started to walk back up the towpath. Ruth see's he's coming back and says he's going, she will do the locks so of she goes opens the gates and swings the bridge open.I've pushed the pair of the side and is heading towards the lock when the "Fellow" turns round seeing that the top gates are open and the bridge is open walks up to the open mouth of the lock and jumps in!He then swims across the canal with his shopping bag and climbs out.I have stuck it hard in reverse and as he climbs out Ruth has gone over the other gates to get to the other side(away from him).i then went into the lock and ask the chap if hes ok to which he reply s "yes are you" and i said "well i am mate not sure about you".he then rings the front of his T shirt out pulls a sponge form the shopping bag and rings it out and heads of towards town! there is some strange folk out there!!!!!!!

We are going (again),lovely Festival,and we all sit on the island in the evening talking and drinking to much .

we did it, with help ,(thankyou Keith and Ann Bottle) and the locks were quite at the time.I,m sure if you had a word with the Historic Narrow boat Club they would be willing to help,(sorry ours are not historic). if you want a proper horse drawn you could ask "olive"(ex LMS) butty.

We did sheet stores back to the lock breasted up,the house boats and being shallow at the sides made it "interesting"! Having been to the top a few times in a narrow boat the bridge profile may be worth checking first.as a foot note there is a wide beam moored outside sheet store,maybe you could call and have a word first.

We're not going this year as Ally has said 'many tales could be told of last year'. Even though a certain person is not involved this year, he did put us off going back.

lack of friction on the butty may be a prob with this, i think it will just swing wider when you try to stop and a bar will hit your ankles!

We cross strap when in busy bits cause its easier for other boaters,( some boater can't see past 60' in front of them) as you are towing a "motor" not a butty do not use a line as it will tow like a pig! As for stopping try to think further in front i.e. there is a lock just round the bend i need to slow down now to make life easy . and remember the back of your boat is the "butty" brake,and it will jack knife across the cut if you have to do a quick stop! Been towing our butty about for 3 years now and it easy if you take your time.

ok so does a butty being x strapped need a tunnel light?,

Lister (he leaked a bit as a pup),will take up loads of room some time,but he does like the small dog basket when the other one gets out of it
