  1. If you are thinking of going for the Wedgwood factory tour on a weekend don't bother, it's a rip off. We moored near bridge 104 on the T and M and walked up to the 'World of Wedgewood'. Firstly as a pedestrian it's almost impossible to find the way in. We bought our tickets for the 'factory tour' which is advertised as showing all the craftsmen/women at work. The reception said that as it's a weekend "some of the craft workers may be beginning to pack up in about 15 mins". That was a lie. All but two had already gone home. Of the two left one was a trainee who had only started 5 days ago. We made our feelings known at the desk on the way out, but they weren't really interested.
  2. We have two Tern C7's and use them a lot. Very useful for shopping where the shops are too far from the canal to walk. Also useful just to get around when in a town or city e.g. Oxford. Steve
  3. We have a flexible water tank in our narrowboat, it was made by Duratank. The are an excellent company to deal with, but the tanks aren't cheap. Steve
  4. We had our boat completely done in Amtico earlier this year. We are very happy with it. I can highly recommended the Carpet and Flooring Company in Banbury, they did an excellent job. Steve
  5. Mission accomplished; duff regulator replaced with one from old alternator. The brushes looked a bit worn, so I'll get a new one later, but this one will get us home. Thanks to all those who have given advice. Steve Edited due to fat fingers
  6. Called in to see Sandra at Middlewich Narrowboats. She didn't have a new regulator, and the only alternators were'nt a direct replacement. So she offered me an old A127 that was destined for skip so I can try using the regulator from that. See attached. Steve
  7. 07855 205137 is the right number. I've spoken to Sandra who will have a look tomorrow, but advises that a new alternator is probably the best option. Steve
  8. I tried to contact her through Middlewich boats, but they only tried to sell me a new alternator! !
  9. Thanks, I'll contact them. Steve
  10. Is she the same Sandra at Middlewich Narrowboats ?
  11. Following from this thread http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=84984&page=1 Sir Nibble's temporary fix is working well, but I'd like to get the regulator replaced. Currently at Whitchurch, can anyone recommend a boat electrics person in the Barbridge/Middlewich/Kidsgrove area that could supply and fit one for me? Or failing that a supplier and I'll have a go at fitting it myself Steve

  13. Yes, I have put a jump lead from the engine battery, so the other alternator is now charging both.
  14. Did as advised by Sir Nibble. All ok so far, stable at 13.9 - 14.1
  15. But presumably I need to disconnect the main terminal ?
  16. >That is the common or garden A127 alternator so you should find one off ebay We're currently cruising, so eBay isn't really an option. Also we have a deadline to get son-in-law back to work! I'll try and get one from a local motor factors.
  17. Is the yellow/black wire the warning light terminal?
  18. That was my first thought but there doesnt seem to be a sense wire on the alternator. I'll check again, but I was very careful putting back the connections
  19. It isn't connected between the battery and alternator, it's straight onto the battery
  20. It drops to about 13.4 I'm thinking tomorrow of disconnecting the domestic alternator and using a jump lead to connect the two battery banks and running on the engine alternator. I don't want to fry my brand new batteries! ! Steve
  21. Earlier this week I installed 3 new 110ah leisure batteries. Since then if we cruise for more than about 5 hours the battery monitor gives an 'over voltage' alarm. I checked with a digital voltmeter and it ranges from 15.6 - 16.2. Most of the day the monitor shows 12.8 - 13.2, then it goes up to 14.4 for a while then the alarm comes on and it's over 15v. Is it the regulator on the alternator that's shot ? Thanks Steve
  22. They did some repairs on our cratch cover with which we were very pleased. Steve
  23. Ours is but most of the pics I can find don't show it off very well. This might be the best: http://www.justheaven.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/cutweb1.jpg Steve
  24. But how will this work with hire and share boats ? Steve
