    Carpeted walls..

Not sure what it has to do with carpets.
  2. Got a satellite dish mounted on the mooring. River is a bit high at the moment and I discovered last night that the B***** thing doesn't work underwater! m@
  3. How's this? Excell worksheet m@
  4. Thanks for the replies folks, feeling a bit better now. I believe he had, certainly a contract broken after some outlay by the broker, showing people round, placing adverts, etc. Perhaps it always happens to people who have a boat named "Sapphire" m@

  6. I am currently looking for something a bit bigger than the 24ft cruiser that I live on. Saw a nice 48ft David piper, just what I am looking for, had a good look round, started engine, etc. On Friday I made an offer to the broker who contacted the owner, he accepted the offer, and I paid a deposit. This morning got a crane and surveyor organised so all set to go. Then I got a phone call from the broker, very apologetic, told me that the owner had removed the boat from the marina and sold it privately for £2000 LESS than my offer. Broker has refunded my deposit and is looking into the possibility of perusing the owner re. the broken contract. Very p***** off this evening. m@

  8. Thanks for the calculations. Work fine for me on a 24ft cruiser "113.8c - do they get that hot?" Not sure, just checked a teaspoonful of water on the ducting , it evaporated in 2 seconds! Good point, it is a modification I am probably going to implement in the summer. m@
  9. Think your calculations are out for "Best G4 side pin" IMHO the quality of light from both has improved over the past year or so. It is worth another look if people have previously dismissed these sources because of light colour, etc. Useful information - thanks for posting. m@
  10. I have a Webasto air blower. The installation manual implies that if heating air is drawn from outside, rather than recirculating internal air, then humidity is reduced. Anybody tried this? m@
  11. Anchor Supplies sometimes have 90cm searchlights in stock.
  12. I use these ones: Bedazzled Rated at 8V to 30V, they they come with a little zener thing to suppress voltage spikes. m@
  13. Does your wiring run in conduit or trunking of some kind. It might be that smoke from the first fault was conveyed to the second socket through this. When you saw the second lot of smoke it was coming through the socket and there was nothing wrong with the second charger, therefore it worked fine when plugged directly to the genny. Bit of a long shot. m@
  14. TV - I have a 10 inch job from Maplin, adequate for me. When I looked at This Website, I find that I can get a 15 inch that actually takes less power, so thinking of upgrading. m@
  15. Agreed, and WarriorWoman, any chance you can reduce that HUGE avatar? m@
  16. Get a copy of the Code of practice Amazon Get a "non computerised" PAT, it is quicker to write down results on a form than push all those buttons. (And less easy to make a mistake) The COP recommends that you write down actual results rather than "Go" or "No-go". I like this one: Martindale PAT If you are using the tools "At work" then the COP does recommend that you test them There is no legislation that says you must be qualified, the COP says that you must be competent, a qualification is one way to demonstrate competence. Idleness does make a good point though, in the event of a tragedy, you need to be sufficiently knowledgeable to stand up in court and convince an expert that you know what you are talking about. There is no legislation that says you must do PAT testing, by doing it you are covering yourself under several items of legislation, e.g: The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, (Duty of care) the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, (Risk assessment) the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, (Suitability and maintenance) the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. (Maintenance) m@
  17. I have the same set-up but without the external aerial, and moor right on the edge of a signal area (Usually get 1 or 2 bars) Generally I get a good service but, like you, have recently had several periods when the net is so slow as to be unusable. This usually happens at weekends and lasts one or two days. System overloaded?? m@

And I did it in the dark - no point having the light on when you have your eyes closed (actually the shower was running for about 5 minutes, 2 minutes was the pump running time due to the accumulator) m@

You're right - I just had a shower - 2 minutes including 20 seconds drain pump Washing up - 20 seconds x 3 Hand washing - 10s x 4 Kettle and cooking - say 30s Toilet - no pump Adds up to about 5 minutes a day, less when I go to work. I guess this is the difference between roughty-toughty boating and the high energy kind. m@
  20. My steel rudder stock corroded through, (GRP Boat, bronze propeller), it was 40 years old, decided not to bother with anodes because if it goes again in 40 years time it probably wont be my problem. m@

Just wondering, what are you doing with a pump for 2 hours/day? Mines not on for much more than 2 minutes! m@
  22. Certainly worth a look, in my opinion one of the great engineering feats of the 20th century m@
  23. Or as defined by EA?? Or moored in waters not requiring a licence?? True, But a relatively cheap way to own a home!
  24. I agree, winter is the best. That mooring guy at Fotheringhay never misses a trick, rushed out to take my 3 quid when I arrived at twilight, Christmas eve! Did you notice anything strange in the photo? m@
  25. Tis indeed - built about 1965. I notice you moor on the river soar Fuzzy. Sapphire was based at Raynsway Marina until about 5 years ago, so you probably recognise her? m@
