Water-rats

Puppy in a box. We heard the whimpering as we walked past. Poor pup was dehydrated, rather emaciated, covered in sores and infested with fleas. As we discovered after we dived in and pulled him out. We called the police but the skip hirer said he knew nothing about it as was really shocked. We called the pup Hector and he lived until 15. Cost £500 + at the vets to sort him out but worth every penny

When we lived on the Broads we had a nice GSD who was around a year old when we moved on to the boat, and a collie x terrier x something with bandy legs (he was about 14 inches high, quite long and looked a bit like Sprocket from Fraggle Rock). We currently have a poachers pack, Jack Russell and a lurcher. They like boats, especially the terrier who tries to get on any boat along the towpath, much to our embarrassment. Even when she's on her lead.

Hope so, we love reading Ernie's adventures. He mentioned geocaching in one of his posts and we've been hooked on geocaching ever since. Mine of useful information is Ernie. His piccies are pretty stunning too. Can't say that I'd blame him for having a bit of "me" time, if thats whats occuring.

Its not all of us and it really annoys us dog owners who do scoop the poop that others are so thoughtless. I agree that having a near miss on a bike is horrible, cycling through it is just revolting.

Just had a quick peep at the house that I grew up in. They've dug up the rose garden. My mother will be turning in her grave. Looks really sterile with the white UPVC windows. Not like my old home at all. I went for a virtual walk to school and back. Bored now. Must be all that thinking of double maths on a Friday afternoon.

As a dog owner, the poo bags in the hedgerows annoy the daylights out of me. We have bought bio-degradable poop bags, we scoop and take the poo home to biodegrade. The bags rot down in a matter of days (about 20 I think). Seeing the 'poo trees' is a bloody disgrace. Its not all of us dog owners, just a few thoughtless ones. If they are going to chuck it in the hedge, why don't they just have a bag with a little trowel in and just chuck the poop in, as said earlier in this thread. Seeing the bags floating in the cut gets me really angry too.

We lived on the broads with our GSD. Although we had a GRP broads cruiser, rather than a NB. Sometimes we had a few problems getting off when the tide dropped. As regards Troy the GSD, we found a tug on the lead and a 'hup' did the trick. The stern was that sort of criss-crossed plastic finish that the cruisers of the 80's had. I did cover the step down with rubber matting to help cut down on slippage, both of us and Troy. He loved life on the water, he took to it as quickly as anything. As said before, lots of towels Happy cruising with the dog.

The Egloo is bigger than you think. Our mate has a smallish one and it holds 4 chickens quite happily. Then again, she has a garden and not a boat. They are a bit pongy though. When they had 3 chickens they were over-run with eggs. Now they are seriously over-run with eggs and sell the eggs to their work mates. 2 chickens may be a better option if there are only 2 of you on a boat. Its got to be better than anything else on the box at the moment. We rather enjoy Waterworld.

We have dogs and we work with dogs too. Neither of us have any problems cleaning up after our hounds, even when there is nobody looking. Its down to good manners and personal standards really. I really don't want others complaining about the mess my dogs leave. There are always exceptions to scooping the poop. My youngster loves to dive deep into the brambles for some toilet privacy. I am not going deep into the brambles to clean up poo! Its simply not going to happen. Then again, it will biodegrade in a matter of days and its not in the middle of the path. We use biodegradable poop bags, bag it and bin it. Its not difficult! We are not paragons of virtue, just well brought up. This practice of hanging bags up on the bushes really irritates me. On the field, where we walk regularly in the mornings, there is a bag of poo hanging up. Its well out of reach as its been thrown up so high. Its been there over a year now. Carrier bags are not that good at rotting. Of course we are assuming that its a bag of poo, we've not climbed up to check. Everywhere you go there are these little plastic bags either dumped into the base of a bush or actually hanging up on it. Its the way society is going. I have to pick up a bag of poo thats been thrown over my front wall pretty much daily. Sometimes twice. Same for my neighbours. The poo bag is alongside the general rubbish that the kids on the way to school just hoss over the wall. Despite the fact there is a bin on the corner of the street - just 30 yards along. Even then there is rubbish around the bin and not actually in it. Its not just the dog poo thats the problem, its all the other rubbish to boot. I do agree that the poo is far more unpleasant to step in than an McDonalds wrapper. The poo is just the thin end of the wedge though.

We have been known to cycle along the tow path but we are a bit fat and cycling and speed are not words that, for us, naturally occur in the same sentence. We have been yelled at by speeding cyclists while we've been walking and while cycling and its not very nice. Both of us like to think that we have common sense and manners and either slow right down (not that we are very quick) or simply stop to let others pass, especially dog walkers. Our cycle computers say that on average that our cycling speed is about 10mph. We are pretty sure that we only have that quick an average speed because of the downhill bits . I don't have a problem with cyclists using the towpath, after all we do it, its manners that are lacking here. Funny thing is, when we were kids, we used to cycle really quickly on our bikes. It all seems too fast now, and as for down hill :lol: ......

It depends on your fish, avoid the sensitive types. Your tropiquarium peeps will advise you. Our fish were not bothered during the so called 'hurricane' all those years ago. The roof blew off the house and some of the top half of the house was seriously damaged. Meanwhile, downstairs, the fish swam about quite happily despite the power outage. We didn't lose a single one.
