  1. In answer to the question as too whether rustoleum PAINT is easy to apply, yes it is very easy to apply with brush or roller and covers a multitude of sins with one coat. It is available in a vast range of colours, I think there is a colour card on their website
  2. In the process of repainting my boat with rustoleum and very pleased with the result. I work for a rustoleum stockist but am not aware of neverwet being available in the UK. I will speak to our buyer on monday to see if he has any more information.
  3. Went to have a look round last week. There were a lot of boats but no sign of any building. I was told it was due to start this year so there may be some disruption with the roadways. It is really not much more than a hole in the ground and I certainly wouldn't part with any money until I saw a lot more evidence of something happening. I went into Mercia when it was much like Barby, I had to wear hiviz and a hard hat. The difference was that Mercia hadn't been running already for 3 years and they had a decent office without the smell of cats pee and a manky old parrot in a cage. In reality I don't think I will be moving into Barby next year
  4. I appreciate if you are a ccer ot cmer you don,t need a residential mooring but the non residential marinas I have been in have all made it quite clear that a residential address has to be supplied with proof that you live at that address (utility bill / driving licence) and all correspondence from the marina is sent to that address
  5. Sorry Robbo not being awkward but the title of the topic is "Address on a non residential mooring"
  6. If it is non residential mooring then why not have post sent to your own address, after all you won't be living on the boat full time, or am I missing something
  7. Be careful about using a too powerful fan as if you have a multifuel fire you will be cutting down on the amount of oxygen available for efficient combustion with the incumbent risk of CO
  8. I use a Navman satnav and it is great in London and elsewhere. On Monday I was looking around for a new marina and use the Waze app on my phone. This is normally great but it really let me down. The first location ended up on the M45 30 feet above the marina, by the time we realised it was wrong we were stuck on the M45 and had to go down to junction 16 on the M1 to turn round, not very helpful. The second location was slightly better but is took us down a lane which even a 4 x 4 would not have been able to navigate, after reversing about 400 yards back to the main road we carried on and it recalculated the route taking us to within 400 yards of the marina but in the middle of the canal. SWMBO had great pleasure in taking the colloquial as she hates satnavs and really enjoyed finding both locations using a map
  9. Had a ride up to Barby today to have a look. As said definitely work in progress but has good potential. Not moving till a end of next year so we will keep our eyes on the development as we haven't ruled it out. Thank Simon for meeting up with me, very much appreciated
  10. Hi Sorry if the information is available elsewhere but I have searched and can't find any recent posts. Does anybody have any information about Barby Moorings, we are thinking of moving and like the location but there seems to be some adverse comments in various places. We are thinking of driving there tomorrow but if it is really bad we won't bother. Thanks for any info
  11. Just a point. Are you sure that you need to drain the oil from your gearbox, normally the PRM takes TQF or Dexron2 which only needs changing if you have had clutch plate problems which makes the oil go black in which case more drastic action is needed than an oil change
  12. Just read this post, seemed like a reasonable start, a new member asks a question but why do certain members have to make sarcastic comments regarding the suitability of his post. It is after all supposed to be a friendly community and what the hell if the subject has been covered before. Come on guys it is Christmas
  13. Although supposedly flat don't believe that cycling rural towpaths is easy. The further away from civilisation the longer the grass and the bigger the drag. Also I have a nasty scar on my right shoulder where I tried to avoid a pothole under a bridge and rode straight in the brickwork. This being said it is a great way to get about and if you have a decent map big time savings can be made where the canal loops and the nearby road carries on straight and rejoins a few hundred yard on.
  14. Used one recently, I thought it looked quite nice, it was well designed and practical and best of all I managed it without cutting myself or shutting my fingers in it. Also I didn't get sprayed by leaky joints and found it a pleasure to not have to work out which way that silly lever should go to get the correct outlet working, I always seem to get it wrong and end up with wet feet. I reckon we should get more of the antiquated equipment updated and maybe one day we won't have to fight with lock paddle gear that is so knackered it should also have been updated half a century ago. It is after all 2013 not 1813
  15. Went for ages with no fenders but decided to buy some new ones when we started repainting the boat. Cruised for a day with them down, result now have two of my new fenders on the deck after recovering them from the river after getting them caught on the first bit of armorcladding we encountered. Remaining fenders now safely stowed on the gunwhales out of harms way Conclusiom: don't cruise with fenders down
  16. Used to drip but since new stern gear fitted 8 years ago nothing . Some say if it doesn't drip it's too tight but hay ho
  17. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  18. jenevers in reply to your question surprisingly little corrosion apart from a little on the last 1/3rd of the baseplate which I decided to overplate although my surveyor said it would be ok for another for another 3 or 4 years
  19. I spoke to one supplier and asked what happened to the record sheets that we fill in when refueling. He said they go into a file and that is where they remain, nobody has inspected their records in 3 years. He just does his return using a summary and pays the necessary to HMRC, their only interest is that his returns and payments are on time. Being practical, the amount involved is so tiny that the revenue are not going to waste resources chasing up boaters and getting involved in what could be a really drawn out argument to assess the true usage for such a paltry amount of tax. I think that the revenue have much bigger fish to fry.
  20. Most of our local winter moorings have been occupied by the same "CCers" all summer so maybe this is how you become eligible, just stay there and claim squatters rights
  21. It took 24 years for someone to realise that my boat had seawater anodes fitted. I did wonder why they were still like new
  22. Well done Cheshire Cat for starting a new thread on this subject. As with lot of posts the original theme gets completely lost and if you try to bring it back you often just get sarcasm from some (normally long standing) members
  23. At 40 squids where can you go wrong, stick it in a corner out of the damp you never know what can happen when out cruising. Even if you can't use it yourself there will nearly always be someone to help out
  24. Am I being thick, the advert suggests it has an engine but it seems to lack a prop
