  1. on the follow up to that, what is the mooring like, ie is there any and if can or do have to book
  2. There are several reason, imagine a lock, full of boats all with their engines still running, all those fumes in a lock that could build up. The other reason who can hear themselves with the engine running, so if anything goes wrong how can hear what to do.... so please turn off your engines as a matter of course
  3. Thats a blast from the past, as I use to work with Ian(Nobby)I tried once to steer Sickle with a barge and I managed to hit Bulbourne bridge, surprisingly after that I was never allowed to steer her again, I was left on the back of the barge.
  4. I am think i am bonkers just looking at one to buy. Thank you all for your comments. I am off to look at the boat again tomorrow.
  5. It had a survey last year and for insurance purposes doesn't need another one for a few years.
  6. Have steered loaded and unloaded working boats as well as similar type of boat. In fact I took a 70ft drawing 3ft for 7 weeks on a long holiday. In fact that has what has made me look seriously. My mate is worried about leaky rivets. Wasn't going to name and still aren't
  7. Full length, fully converted with a steel top, is a motor... I could name it but I am looking for general comments, as a friend of mine keeps planting tales of woe about owning an old working boat Yes
  8. Metal with flying rivets and welding
  9. I would like to know what the pros and cons are off owning a converted working boat. Please state the bleeding obvious too as I am sure I missed something
  10. I tied up there with no problem. However I did get a sleeping bag wrapped around the prop, so had no choice staying there, as took nearly 2 hrs to get off..
  11. Who was that then... <<<<<buffing ones knuckles and breaking arm whilst patting on back>>>>
  12. Hi and welcome to the forum

  13. Thames Moorers. Those visiting the Thames shouldn't be put off what sounds like a lack of moorings. There are hundreds of little spots that you can find, from the offical 24 hr to the middle of now where ones. The general advice is if its on the towpath side and its doesn't say "No Mooring" help your self. However if you lie at anchor, make sure you are displaying the correct lights, the same if you are travelling after dark. I suugest you visitVisit Thames web site it should have all the information you need.
  14. Thanks for info. As i would like to combine both. However a follow up question. Can be this be, so the fire can be heating the boat, but when reaches a certain temp the Eber can fire up and take over
  15. IS it possible to intergrate Eberspacher type systems with a solid fuel stove with back boiler.
  16. I've got the red one... handle does get a little warm though.. Where did you get the solar lights from btw?
  17. It must be horses for courses. I have had a Rinnai for nearly 6 years and have no problems with it, expcept when I forgot to drain the system and I cracked a pipe in the heat exchanger. One phone call and they sent me the heat exchanger. It even produces hot water even when i have ice in my water tank..
  18. Its a combi unit. It trips out when the battery charger unit kicks in. We have tried the usual unplugging all the 240v units. It has now given up charging completely. So have had to circumnavigate the charger unit to get 240v into the boat. We are having to charge the batteries via the engine. It sounds like we might have to take it to Victron to sort
  19. A friend has a vitron system which is 5 years old. It know seems it is tripping out all the time, anyone know why
  20. Bones Count me in. Am coming down from Northampton, will have walking boats with me, so could I join you and pooch. Also put me down for a stew please....
  21. Went to see her last weekend, she was in the water, but got some photos of her when she was in dock.... Am river based, so with a little stream running she should be more than able to cope
  22. sorry being caggey as am keen on buying "Ant" was trying to avoid being beaten to the punch. As some say its an old boat, it is a Simon boat and it looks great..
  23. I spent 8 weeks on a friends boat with hydraulic drive on it. It drove a RN2, it was great, twice it saved me from searing the prop shaft when I got a sleeping bag and then a large log around the prop. Esp after i heard the story of a new build that had some thing wrapped around the prop. It sheared the prop shaft and also lifted the engine of its bearers. It cost thousands to repair, a lot more than the hydraulic drive....
  24. I am currently interested in a EC jones boat built in 1960, am worried about the condition of the hull, do i need to worry, or just rely on the survey report
