  2. The Fenland Watermans Club will tinfish any boat speeding pass their moorings, Just have a look in their yard. Plus a large bung shoved down your funnel, no more phut. Part from that we only six hireboats in the Fens anyway. Firesprite Beat to quarters `number one` and load `S.A.P`
  3. Best nip down and have a poke around, You may find some `Low Life` has wired his mains into yours and you have ended up with the bill. Firesprite In the peace of the Fens
  4. Last year it was around the end of September. Firesprite In the peace of the Fens
  5. Same thing with T-Moble, Using a standard sim card just text `web` to 441 and get 5 days for £2.50. Firesprite In the peace of the Fens
  6. Has it been that long?. I been popping for years when I been in the area. And thanks for all the lifts to station over the years. When you hand in the keyes for the last time, You be able to do a spot of U-Boat Hunting . In the meanwhile a few Depth-Charges and Hedgehog bombs in stock would come in useful . 7. A misguidedbus requires a far greater standard of maintenance than a normal bus(3X)and inview that the traffic commissioners give Stagecoach a formal warning in April concerning poor maintenance standards. In Adelaide it is not unknown for a bus to be taking out of service two or even three times a day to have a guide wheel replaced. Odds on Stagecoach will keep the bus in service ('If a bus is not working, its not earning' CEO Stagecoach). When compared with Adelaide the busway is built to a lower standard. The Adelaide busway is compleatly fenced off and all crossings are by bridge or overpass. In Cambridgeshire the busway is unfenced and most crossing are on the level. With buses racing across the gaps at full speed with the guide wheels rengaging with a bang with this sort of abuse how long before a guide wheel rips off (This did happen in Scotland and that with a 30 mph speed limit after this, the speedlimit at crossings was set at 10 mph . And then there is the weather, Fog is common in Cambridgeshire,In Adelaide it is very rare (On average 4.7days of light fog per year). For a system which depends on line of sight (The same as a railway built in 1830) there are going to be crashes. The Adelaide buses are painted dayglow yellow at the front and dayglow red for a good reason and the flashing rear light. The Stagecoach buses are painted dark green at the rear. Which do you think will stand out in a dark and fog night. In winter Stagecoach buses are amix of blacks and greys. In Essen they have a problem with getting replacment buses as the busway were built to width of 2.5m, Buses today are 2.7m wide. With in a few years this will be a problem for Cambridgshire. The council dropped the court case and handed over 64 millon pounds of Taxpayers money to BAM, when they relased that the facts would comeout.(BAM were under contract not to speak anyone on the subject). 8. The one in Adelaide opened 27 years ago, it was a mistake, all plans to extend the network were dropped and tram network expanded instead. The only reason it is still open is that the City does not want to admit that it was a mistake. The one in ESSEN (The only one in Germany)was a tram line that was converted to a busway for the benfit of a magor city company (Benz Buses) to showcase their products, The factory has since been moved to Poland. Less than ten of this type have been built around the world and half of those have been closed since. Firesprite In the Office (Only 31 mins by nice safe train with being able to take hot drinks and food on the train plus a loo, Far better than a unsafe misguided bus)
  9. Nipped into the council office on the way in to day and enquired, They comflim at least a 3 and 1/2 year wait. Foxes in March have a few space berths at the monment and is only 32 mins from Cambridge by train (I do this run 3 days aweek (£13.20 per day peakrate). Firesprite In the Office
  10. Now an £86,000,000 over budget, Only 4 people supported it, more than 4000 rejected it. It is allready falling apart. High speed Guided buses required to be kept in a top notcn condition, something that Stagecoach are not known for. These thing are not safe. Firesprite In the Office
  11. There was this one, which had six engines with a total power output of 2000hp D10100 Fell Loco Firesprite
  12. Tayor paraffin-cooker I intend to fit one of these stoves, When I relocated the galley to the front of the boat. Never been that happy using gas, as I had a camping gas stove go up in my face (1st & 2nd dregree burns) on a camping trip. Firesprite In the Office
  13. Why a water point at Salter's Lode? Is there not a water point at Denver.? March is well used. Since EA introduced the 7 day and 1 day tickets. The result of which is a big increase in the number of boats based on the middle level going out on to the nene for week or a weekend. Often now on a friday poor Tiny is run off her feet with the sheer number going through out on to the river. If you price it right you will get a increase in fee income. As for investment most has been on the Nene the last few years. Firesprite Boston
  14. That Fenland hall are to close the Sanitation Point on the Old River Nene in March. The site is located Off Grays Lane, By the town bridge and is run by Fenland Hall. This has been a rummor for some time, I had been informed by the council that site was under review and subject to consultation. It has come to light that the council hadalready decided to close the site, but delayed until after 5th May, as this was a vote losing subject. And that council staff was under orders to misinform people on the subject. The council lied to me as well as the Middle Level Waterman club and the IWA. The council claim that a pump needs to be replaced and that it would cost £25000, I made enquires to a number of pump makers and the true cost is around £2500. The council state 'boaters' can use Foxes (£16). The pump-out is located on the hireboat mooring so access is very limited and you get no pumpout on a Turnround day. People who have been to the Fens will know its very windy round here. If the wind gets above 15 knots getting into and out of Foxes is pain. The only easy access water point can be found at the Five Bells Mooring on Well Creek, Water point previded by the Well Creek Trust. The key is in the Pub and is a £1 per tank (The trust do need to pay the water bill). The trash point is at Outwell Basin (Again payed for by the trust). Easy access pump-outs at Ely and Peterbrough. 15. Mult fuel stove, using 'Bog'Oak when you can get your hands on (Dug out by framer's in the Fens). Burns slow for hours with great heat out. The downside is that it needs to be cut before it dries out, otherwise you will wreck your saw. Firesprite In the Office
  16. The melting point of steel is around 1370 C, Between 1270 C and 1370 C is the point where steel changes state from soild to Liquid. True blacksmith work is done at round 700 to 800 C, but you are hitting the steel with a large hammer with great force. That why blacksmiths arms are so thick. If you need more information just google 'Melting points of steel'. Firesprite
  17. Its been a legal requirement on fishing boats over 30ft in length for many years. My own reg shuts off gas if there is excess flow. auto shut Firesprite In the office
  18. The thing about a gas fire in house is that it has a unlimited supply of fuel from the Gas main until it is shut off. On a boat it is limited, And that the gas reg would shut off the supply if the flow was too great. Firesprite
  19. The fire temp must have been around 1300 degrees C, For the steel to bend under its own weight. You need a howing gale blowing down the cut to get the fire going with the vents closed nearly shut. Even here in the Fens with door open in a howing gale (Of which we have many round here), The stove has never gone over 400 degrees C. There was a case some years ago that My late Great Uncle looked in to on his patch (He was the CFIO for the Surrey Fire Service) where oil was poured down the chimmey of a caravan, The oil spread out of the stove over the carpert seting fire to everything it came in contact with. The owner was inside a sleep at the time. The poor boat owner may have got on the wrong side of the local 'never do wells' who may have torched the boat for what they see as fun. Most of us have had our mooring lines cut, windows broken and other things at one time or other. Firesprite
  20. The Royal Snail has increased the cost of renting a PO Box to £170 (Nearly a 80 percent rise), In 2009 the cost was only £62, last year it went up to £96. It seem the Royal Snail wishes to discourge the use of PO Box, By these rip-off price rises. Firesprite
  21. Try Ebay, I had a set of 8 rope side fenders from a fendermaker in Doncaster KnottyFenders Firesprite
  22. I just rise the USA flag, All USA weapons have a hardwired setting not to hit anything flying the US flag. The 'yanks' rarely hit what they aim at. Firesprite
  23. Only 3 Berths out of 170 berths in my home marina has had a census form in the post. All 3 berths in question have either a non-powered houseboat moored on it, Or has in the past. Cross checking with the council tax address database, showed the 3 berths in question, as being listed. This points to this database is the one being used by lockheed as it would be the only full database which would hold all residential addresses. That does explain why the open boat on the berth next to me, had a form and not me. Firesprite
  24. Iam law abiging boat owner, I just used a legal loophole and had a Dutch weekend away to avoid 'Census day'. I have no wish to be knee deep in junk mail, As I was after the last 'Census'. Firesprite
  25. New visiter moorings have been built in West End Park in March(Town) on the Middle levels. Normal 36hour limit for mooring, The 'No fishing from the mooring' sign has already been removed overnight by fisherman?. A 60ft visiter mooring has been built at Benwick on the route to Ramsey.
