  1. That's what I thought. Perhaps it's for submarines aswell.
  2. I had a walk up there last night and took a couple of pics, no sign to be found. As soon as I remember how to upload the pics I will do it!!!!
  3. There is no work going on at either of the flashes. All the digging is being done on the towpath side near the pipe bridge just along from Orchard marina.
  4. Carl, I didn't know that the water around there was any different than locally. I live about 1/2 a mile away from this site and have seen it on passing and standing on top of the boat, I can see it has been dug very deep, maybe 10 feet or so it seems looking from the canal. I have searched the net for info but can't find anything definite on completion dates or anything else, I will have to have a walk up there and check out the sign which must have only just been erected.
  5. Found this on the "I.W.A" website, it was dated June 2006 but I believe it still to be the case. Trent & Mersey Canal At its meeting on 16th May, the planning committee at Vale Royal Borough Council, with one abstention, voted unanimously to reject the application from Ripple Developments to construct a marina in Billinge Green Flash. IWA’s Chester & District Branch had lobbied strongly against the application. A decision on the Park Farm marina, which is proposed for the towing path side of the canal in the same area was deferred. The developer, Travelreign, has amended its plans, halving the size of the marina, and a consultation period on this development was extended to 24th May. Les.

  9. Trent & Mersey at Broken Cross frozen over with a thin sheet of ice this morning. Don't know what the temp is apart from "Brass Monkeys". Les
  10. There's nothing worse than splatter around your porthole. Les

  12. Saw this one a while back, not quite in the cratch though. Les
  13. Hi James, I had a leak from the gunwhale area over the bed, it only leaked visibly when it rained heavy. I too sealed all around the window frame above the bed,but everytime I tested it with a hosepipe , it still leaked. I ended up removing the panelling from below the window inside and spraying water on small individual areas of the window frame outside. Eventually I narrowed it down one of the screwholes in the frame, even with the screw in place it leaked. So I removed all the screws and pumped a bit of sealant into each screwhole before refitting the screws. Might be worth checking, good luck. Les.

  16. Hi Colin, I have a Liverpool boat with the Vetus watercooled sterngear and it does have a hole through to the weedhatch but it is very difficult to see and cannot be felt with the finger. My understanding is that the cooling water enters from the sterntube and is expelled via the rubber hose, into the weedhatch. Have another close look in the weedhatch( maybe use a mirror ) and see if you have a small hole there, it is only about 3 or 4 mm. Les.
  17. Mine is a Liverpool boat too and has the same problem. It's been loose now for nearly 12 months, I'm waiting till this winter when it comes out of the water for blacking to tighten the pinch bolt. I don't fancy getting in the canal and doing it in the water. Can't think of any other way of securing it. Les.
  18. Yes, you're right. I will change them this weekend. Thanks, Les.
  19. I have this model permanently connected to my domestic batteries and I leave it switched on whenever we are in the marina on mains power. I've had it on there for 12 months and doesn't seem to be doing any harm and as far as I know, the batteries are always charged. Les.
  20. Sorry forgot to read the text, I was too busy looking at the avatar
  21. Hi Gibbo, Martin from Vimart did the signwriting on our boat on the mooring at Swanley Bridge, on a windy couple of days last March and it was brass monkey cold. I kept him topped up with hot cuppa soups to keep his fingers thawed out. He did a great job and he is nice bloke too, I will be going to the boat this week so I'll pop in and have a look.
  22. We have the same symptoms with our water pump, it cuts in for maybe 2 or 3 clicks every couple of hours or so. I have checked thouroughly for leaks and can't find any, I guess it could be the valve in the pump which is not holding pressure 100%. I can put up a few clicks every couple of hours. Les

  24. Went through Beeston Iron lock at the weekend and noticed how someone had painted the Cill markings on the edge of the lock. Perhaps this is the reason for so many boats coming to grief in the lock.
