  1. Look around theres quite a few. Same with most things you buy, you then notice how many there are around, cars and just recently solar panels all over the shop.
  2. The dyson is pretty good, ours dc44, warrany first class, battery played up, got one foc asap, also came with new motor assy as they had modded it, no quibble no trying to get out of it etc. Good for car/boat/quick go over in the house etc
  3. Got two in the house been there for approx 10 years no bother at all, 1x 9000btu and 1x 1200btu both heat and cool, dont see much use these days, but when its proper hot and Im trying to sleep during the day the 5 pence per hour to run one of them is worth every penny. Also as mentioned dehumidify as well, heat is also useful as a back up for the gas system having issues.
  4. Ive been using std glycol anti freeze mix 50/50 in my house central heating for the lat 20 years, copied my father in law who has been doing the same for over 40 years.
  5. Second that, got my hot water solar kit from them been fine so far, gas bill for last 50 days 20pence per day, 18pence per day of that is standing charge!
  6. The Russian sub is actually a lot rougher when you see it in the flesh, Im sure its got worse in the last 2 years weve been going past it.
  7. Think you will find they found the lifeboat still on the yacht unused.
  8. Sounds to me like the customer is one of those people who complain a lot knowing people will fold and either give them their money back or something for free. I would just walk away and have no further contact Of if you cant sleep at night go and personally get the goods back and give him his money back
  9. I kind of was taking the mick as I have a little idea whats going on just a little idea! I was questioning it as was when I go out I always try and catch the tide out and back in as it makes the boat so much nicer to handle and being a tight wad saves quite a bit of fuel I only work on speed over ground as the log speedo is pretty poor to say the least doesnt start working until its on the plane! Thats only correct IF the tide is coming in surely? I ask as you failed to mention it Im also sure you meant boat and not engine Anyway more to the point why arent you lot at the IWA thing in London? just seen it on BBC news
  10. Please explain in laymans language?
  11. I assume you typed this back to front?
  12. Used to work on them and Deutz air cooled as donkey engines driving cement tanker screw compressors, as said above tough old things, Hatz also quite clever, if fan belt fails a rod shoots of of the back of the fuel rail and stops the engine, engine covers used to rust after a few years, but they were outside 24/7 In the end they all got replaced with std water cooled engines in acoustic enclosures, mainly due to the noise of the blower and the engine combined!
  13. Its not as simple as that, I may be wrong but I believe the washing up liquid takes the oil down to the bottom of the river/canal and somehow doesnt allow the oil to break down causing some sort of ecological problem, its the washing liquid that harmful its how or what it does with the oil. It was only the other day I was reading this, but cant remember where!
  14. That beard and hair is not a good combo!
  15. Tidy small starter boats are falcon 23spc, Fairline sprint, always sprints on ebay I think everyone starts the same small petrol boat, get peed of with filling the thing up with fuel and bashing the prop on things, then get a shaft diesel. If tidal you dont need bss certificate, in fact you dont need anything at all, just insurance for the marina. Many people say stern drives are the work of the devil and when they go wrong through lack of spannering/oil changes they cost 3/4k to replace! Most marins you can wander around the boats for sale on the hard and look at the drive set ups. I would say reliable drive line is number one priority, if its looks like its been looked after you could have a good one, everything else is common sense ie vhf/charts/gps/spare fuel/tools/filters/auto life jackets and of course bog paper! whereabouts are you as Im sure someone will take you for a spin?
  16. So did you plug the 24v boat into the 240v mains and did it improve the struggling bit Im pretty sure I did read it, hence the reason for my previous reply!
  17. Surely if he/she does computers, they know just about any forum has some form of etiquette? Not knowing boats run 12 or 24v volt dc is kind of strange because if they are experienced in trucks that can also run 12 and 24 volts is kind of strange? All the above is taken form his/her posts and not made up or conjecture
  18. I think you will find most car main dealers are around 100 pounds per hour, I know the truck place I work at is up to seventy per hour customer dependant, ie more trucks/work = cheaper rate.
  19. If you get the right mechanic/fitter he can do all of the above, but theres plenty of them who cant even do what they are meant to do, unfortunately the office staff are in the same league! Ive been doing this job for over 25 years now and dont have a single degree or piece of paperwork to say I can. I would hazard a guess that anyone who works in a boat yard must have fitted a few wrong engines in their time. Plus if you see how many times we have to modify what so called engineers have designed and had built then fitted to trucks, so we cant even get to the bits that need servicing, you know simple bits like batteries boxed solid in, fuel filters you cant get to, modified chassis cross members that are cracking after 3 months use, the list goes on and on.
  20. Unless Im very much mistaken property occupiers ie renters have got a fair few rights then some. They certainly cant kicked out on a whim there are procedures to follow etc You are right it wasnt always like this, it was far far worse for the renter, who had virtually no rights at all. Even squatters seem to have rights nowadays
  21. Dont youtube bumping a yale lock, if you do buy something better, one of the first things I changed on my house after seeing the video!
  22. Last two paragraphs in the link with the pics say it all really!
