  1. Copied from London Boaters and Friends of Slough Canal Facebook Boaters: message from Sam at CRT. Due to low water levels in the long pound (camden to hanwell flight and up to cowley) Northwood top lock and hampsted road lock (camden top lock) will be closed nightly at 9pm and reopen in the morning until the pound is full. May take a week or so. Please can anyone using it do the right thing and close the lock gates. Also Cowley is staying open. Anyone using the lock MUST open the top gates as the water then flows over the bottom gates and tops up the system.

  3. Will you have a home mooring or plan to CC? eta... Ours are now 4+6 both were born on to the boats. We have a Residential Mooring so schooling isn't a problem. Main problem is space, I dont think our boat will ever look tidy again, Lego and Plasticine everywhere, Both are very water concious and we drilled this into them as soon as they could walk, no one goes on deck unles one of us is with them. Swimming lessons were also started from an erly age. If you plan to CC then schooling can be a bit more of a problem due to having to move around but there are folks who manage it and im sure will reply to you

  5. a couple of pastes from the London Boaters Facebook 4 July at 13:02 · London Hello boaters, On Monday night, my lovely cat was hit by a cyclist on the towpath and died in my arms. He was very friendly and brought a smile to everyone's face who was passing but was very scared of bikes and was usually very careful. The cyclist didn't stop but another boater took it upon themselves to tell me it was my fault for letting him play on the towpath but I can't control where he plays and it is not fair for a cat to be shut up in a boat all day especially in this heat. I know it was an accident but to hit something at such a speed to kill it almost instantly is irresponsible cycling. Imagine if it had been a child that had been on the towpath. I know a lot of boaters have issues with cyclists on the towpath but I also know a lot of you are cyclists yourselves so I urge everyone to set the right example: take your time, don't rush, don't hassle anyone to get past and look where you're going. Cycling fast should be reserved for the roads. And please don't abuse me - I just want the towpath to be a nice, safe place for everyone. and the other extreme:- 23 hrs Any cyclists on the Waltham - Enfield stretch of towpath; 3 bikes down in as many miles due to drawing pins. (8 in my front. 1 in the other guy's rear - so to speak. And 2 and 1 in the third) You're not likely to see 'em, but carry a spare tube if you've got it.

  11. very true, Its still Lancashire to me and all letters and mail I send to family is still post marked Rochdale Lancs
  12. Or a Yoghurt Pot or Splitter depending on its cost, mind it would still be classed as a Splitter to some big barge owners on the Thames Forum. All done in the best possible taste of course
  13. Those landworks are for the Aviation Fuel Pipeline thats being upgraded, other works along the line between Iver and Langley are for Crossrail. What came to light recently was the fact that the proposers didnt know about the Residential Boats along this stretch, they only had Highline in their Mailing list as a business so they didnt expect any residential issues directly along side the proposed depot on the Langley side of Mansion Lane.
  14. It is what the Motor Boats on salty forums call the yachties. When Yachties put their sails up they often refer to them as Rags
  15. Righto, Stanney Brook Park, Milnrow Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale Healey Dell, Shawclough Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale Tandle Hills, give you that one, Borough of Oldham (but only just) Watergrove, Wardle, Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale The Roman Road & Robin Hoods Bed, Littleborough Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale. It does sadden me however when I return and see the state of the town, Its almost like, when the Mills went, the towns pride went with them.
  16. Point of order Mr Chairman. I give you Hollingworth Lake. The fantastic Rolling Moors that surround its little plot. Stanney Brook Park Healey Dell Tandle Hills The Canal A magnificent town hall Watergrove Reservoir Roman Road over the Pennines Robin Hoods Bed Just a few things I remember from my childhood.
  17. As a Rochdalian please accept my apologies for your recent experience.
  18. At one of the consultation meetings peeps were told that one of the environmental impacts could be noise, this would be monitored and if found to be excessive then the costings would have to include either high noise reducing screens or double glazing for residents or both. Wonder if that will include the boats, should I start choosing my prefered style of DG
  19. Our current boat was a section 8. No auction, just put on the market with a local broker where we saw it advertised

  21. Moor info http://www.southbucks.gov.uk/article/5166/Have-Your-Say---Relocation-of-Heathrow-Express-Depot-to-Langley-for-HS2
  22. Plans have been revealed for the Heathrow Express train depot to be relocated from Old Oak Common to Langley, right alongside the Slough Arm at Highline. Oh well, there goes the neighbourhood This is in addition to the new Crossrail stn at Langley.
  23. There a quite a few, also spotted further up by the Highline Moorings
  24. Cycled past you this afternoon on my way to work. Keep your eyes out for the small Deer that visit this stretch, and yes, bunnies galore
  25. I used to paint the hull and topsides of my old MFV in Johnstones. Had the base colour mixed at the Johnstons Decorating centre in Chatham to make 'Funnel Yellow'. Undercoat was also Johnstones. In the harsh salty environment it never peeled off or looked tired unless I used sockless fenders then id get some rubbing marks on the bits that were permanently rubbing against the pontoon. I used to repaint the hull every year but then I was in drydock for 2 weeks every year for a good scrape and re-antifoul so had plenty of time. There was only once that I remember her not being docked for a couple of years and the paint still had a good gloss on it and IIRR in those 2 years she had 2 return trips to Oostende and a visit to Cherbourg to see the eclipse so plenty of buffetting from the sea.
