  1. We have a shared boat built by Carefree Cruising which is the same people who own and run Northwich Boat Company. Fantastic product but the usual problem with after sales care and service. If you want off the peg I would consider The New boat Co. as they have been building pre-fab for so long but be prepared to pay over the top for optional extras. If anyone would like to read more tales of NB Firefly our shared boat them please PM me.
  2. We have a share with Carefree and I know of a couple of others members on this site who are shares with them too. If you would like to hear our opinion or read what has been said about our shared boat them please PM me and i will send you the link. Regards Steve
  3. There are separate secure moorings opposite the Waterfront which I believe you have to pay for and there are loads of rings just past them which are free. Only problem with the Waterfront is loud music till about 11:00pm week days and till 2am weekends. We have moored over night several times without any problems.
  4. Makro have the same offer for the exactly the same item for same price but plus VAT. I know for a fact Halesowen branch have a pallet full.
  5. The Boat and Railway Stoke Prior excellent food. I would recommend Speed the Plough over the Bridge Inn at Tibberton

  8. Would you re black the bits you've scrapped off now and again? ie from between the first rubber strake and above the water line?
  9. Tony would it possible to upload a few pictures we would be interested in seeing how that works please. What kind of space does it take up once it's been dismantled? How do you get on and off at the bow if the covers are down when mooring? Cheers Steve
  10. We are considering fitting a cratch and cover to our boat and we have a few questions. What types are there? Are they removable? Apart from having that little extra bit and dry space what other advantages are there? What are the disadvantages! Help please! We would like to fit one that would possible be removable or at least lower into a table.
  11. Gaggle if you struggle to get one from Lidl Makro have one for £59.99 plus VAT comes in a smaller box. They had loads of them at the Halesowen store. If you don't have a Makro card or cannot get hold of one PM me and we can arrange something.
  12. Cheers for that Christine tis a good idea, i've emailled them this afternoon wheather I get a reply is another question!
  13. This is where our shared boat is moored, the company have increased the amount of moored boats and now require the other car park spaces. Bit of a bugger really pity Sandbachs not closer to Manchester airport
  14. Hello all, got a bit of a problem and we need a some help. Our boat is based at Sandbach (Elton Moss Bridge 160). Our boat yard will only allow for 1 vehicle per mooring so when friends or family come away with us we'll have to park the other car elsewhere and unsecure. Until now this hasn't been a real problem but as the weeks approach we need to find secure parking, so does anyone know where we could park the other car securely near close to Sandbach? Cheers Steve
  15. Theo which circuit had the brown water?
  16. If the calorifier / cylinder is steel the brown looking stuff will most certainly be rust. As you fill the water up you are always be adding fresh oxygenated water to the system and this keep corroding the steel. Unfortunately there's nothing to can add to the water to stop this all you can do is wait till it fails, sorry. Steels calorifiers are usually used in sealed heating systems and not for open hot water. With a sealed system the air would be eventually kettle off but also additives would be introduced to the system to prevent corrosion, this is usually glycol. As you sure the calorifier is steel? Are you able to drain drain the systems and inspect the calorifier?
  17. As Phoenix stated, a trap is purely there to stop bad smells for the underground drainage. Without going all plumbing technical, basically to should only use a bottle trap on a wash hand basin. 'P' and 'S' traps are designed so that deposits do not accumulate bottle traps have a dip tube and therefore will block easily. If you are struggling for space I would recommend installing running trap and ensuring that you keep the 90 deg bends down to a minimum. Also that the running trap is installed in a place which is easily accessed just in case!
  18. Hi Big Steve I use 3 things to align the dish, simple sat compass cost £5.00 including postage, sat signal finder and set top box itself. I moor up, fix the dish to my magnetic mount and roughly place it on the roof. Get out my trusty compass and stand well back for the boat (magnetic interference) then point the dish in the rough direction making sure that there are no trees or building in the way. Then using the sat finder signal meter I position the dish more accurately. Then using the satellite set top box signal strength meter the better half shouts so I can fine tune the dish direction. This usually takes about 3 mins at the most 5. Another tip use the sun, as it sets point the dish 90 deg anti-clockwise from the sun. Hope this helps
  19. Hi Dave we have experienced problems similar to this with a smaller dish. I found a replaced our current dish with a 450mm wide one now we have no problems Regards Steve

  21. Charles this might seem a silly question but is you other half not very tall? My other half doesn't drive a car but also struggles with steering as she cannot quite see the end of the boat. Last year I managed to get her to stand on a bucket so she could see all the way down the end of the boat it seems the problem has now gone away.

    Bandits

Isn't this the Easter holidays kids are on a 2 week break? Point of the matter is there isn't enough policing in these areas to control the problems, when you do inform the police they are usually to slow to react or just to busy. The local councils as well as installing CCTV in inner city trouble spots should also possibly look into installing CCTV near to troubled bridges. If people and local councils worked a little harder and kept things a little cleaner maybe less rubbish would end up near to the towpath and finally being thrown off the bridges. Maybe supermarkets could create a shopping trolley which couldn't be stolen? What worries me is the average age of the kids seems to be around 8-13 both times there were more girls involved than boys.
  23. I'm surprised a photo pf the gentleman in question hasn't been shown yet any reason why? Have they confirmed that the guy was who he said he was?
  24. No sorry John slight confusion, if the pub/restaurant forum is broken down canal by canal in bridge order so you can select which places you wish to visit whilst cruising that section of the canal. The example that you gave in your previous post is spot on the only additional information I would give is popularity of the mooring and any special events ie The Vine Kinver every second Wednesday music night, bring you own instrument and join in.
  25. John do you have the full address of the above pub in question? If so do they sell dry roasted peanuts? I would prefer the pubs and restaurants listed by canal so you can plan a trip around them (isn't what the cut for these days?)
