  1. Thanks for that Supermalc, I almost knew you would be first to reply. When is the Water Festival?. I intend to arrive in Lincoln in late July, stay for a few days whilst we visit rellys in the area and the set off for home.
  2. Are there any 7 or 14 day moorings in Lincoln ?. If so where are they. Are the moorings in the Brayford still there?.
  3. Thers one at the Lyme View Marina on the Macclesfield Canal. May still be in the possession of investigators followig a fatality.
  4. The 2 stroke diesels I was familiar with in the early 70s were quite high reving. If they are still the same now - probably not too useful for marine propulsion. Could make a decent generator though.
  5. Try http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/jim.shead/
  6. I don't think red will vanish, it will just be harder to get alongside the canals
  7. The High Bridge in Lincoln is also known as the "Glory Hole" . I have been asked why or how it got this name. I have tried Wikipedia without any result- word of caution Google comes up with sites of an explicit Nature.
  8. At a waterpoint my girlfiend tells me she's lost her matermate key and she removes my own key ring from the ignition switch after turning to off (engine still running). 20 mins later she just replaces the key ring in the ignition and turns back to RUN, engine still running. No damage. Maybe just lucky, or maybe my alternator has some inbuilt protection. Noah Alternators are self exciting once the engine has started. The removal of the key with the engine running should not cause any problems. It is removing the Battery and other electrical loads that can cause a problem.
  9. When I fitted my calorfier I connected a hose to a tap and used the pressure to fill the coils before I fitted the hoses to the existing engine cooling system. Worked for me.
  10. So why is it hard to accept that the Smartgauge cannot read the information provided by the battery, store it on a sampling basis and give the information as suggested in the sales blurp.
  11. [ 2006, 03:12 PM' post='77460'Quite honestly I can't see the need for these things, and I think there are several on the market but the most elegant way to monitor your battery charging is simply to fit an ammeter to the system, when the charge rate drops back close to zero your batteries are fully charged it is as simple as that. But if someone wants another indicator to look at that's ok too, I am a bit that way myself. That must mean that there is sometihg smart in the alternator that knows (possibly over only 2 wires) what the state of charge of the batteries is.
  12. Get a look at the "Recent Survey" report it should tell you if the boat is seaworthy. I doesn't look like a liveaboard fit out and the "Sea Toilet" may be a problem with the licensing authority.
  13. Where one boat is moored usually indicates that there is enough depth for others to moor up and sometimes the depth dictates where the second boat will moor
  14. They also might discover that there is a gate that can be opened near to high tide. You don't have to attempt the weir at all. Doing scouting outside the season that you intend to travel can also be missleading as there may be lots of "Fresh" coming down the river that is not there in summer (I Know, been there, done it,got the Tshirt.)

  16. Have you been down Marple Locks recently John?.
  17. Download Adobe Acrobat reader. Save the PDf in a temp Folder and read it from there. Once adobe is downloaded you may be able to open it just by double clicking on the file.pdf name.
  18. Unless the windows come down to the bottom of the cabin sides you can only see out when stood up. There are hire boats that have them lower by a dip in the Gunnels.
  19. I use one! Give me speed over the ground and when I programme waypoints in from Canalplan I get estimates of time to run to reach the waypoint very useful if you want to arrive in time to get a meal.
