  1. Thanks Laurie much appreciated. Peter (Taff)
  2. How did the trip go! This year will be our 9th boat hire & I can honnestly say that AW ends up bottom of the list of hire boat companies. We hired the Aquamarine from Wooton Wawen, it was old three years ago and I see it is still part of their hire fleet. One of the toilet tank seals was damaged the smell was unbareable - put into AW Tardebrigge base for repairs where they were unable to fix the problem. The steering stock was loose, which gave me some concern as we were cruising the Avon Ring. I now steer clear of any company that is part of Hoseasons. Thats only my opinion , you may have had better luck of course. Peter (Taff)
  3. Alan, You asked all the questions I was going to ask! Thanks for that as the replies you had were very informative. I too am looking at stopping in Birmingham at a safe location. Have you stopped at the Tipton Living Museum moorings! Are they safe? and can you turn a boat around at the moorings or will I have to do that at Tipton Junction & go astern to the visitor mooring area. We are travelling anti-clockwise any suggestions for safe moorings soon after Audersley, preferably with a good pub. Thanks, Peter (Taff)
  4. Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself, will be doing the Stourport Ring in early August. You mentioned some good stopping places & pubs. Thanks for that, I''ll keep them in mind. Peter (Taff)
  5. A "posh boat" You mean a boat that Mr Cameron & his "Tory" types would be happy to take for a weeks holiday. That would be Valley Cruises near Coventry.
  6. Welshmike, Got stuck winding there a few years back. It was the height of summer & I couldn't have wished for a bigger audience & to top it off I was flying a dirty great big Welsh Flag off the stern. What didn't help was that these English boaters (tories I suppose) decided to tie up virtually opposite the winding hole. Fortunately, a good down to earth socialist guy from Barnsley gave us a hand in pulling the boat astern. I turned after coming from Blissworth & reversed back towards Stoke Bruerne to tie up for the night. The boat I had then was a 58 footer. I put the mishap down to the wife - she's English.
  7. What are we supposed to do at the begining of the hire, sound the fuel tank, haven't come across any boats with fuel gauges.
  8. I did the Stratford canal this year, hired a boat from Anglo Welsh at Wooton Wawen, I presumed that their boats are built to navigate the stratford canal - to my amazement every lock we went through & every bridge we went under was very tight - you just can't help hitting the sides on that canal - no wonder boat owners like to have their fenders down. Did the whole Avon Ring - didn't enjoy it - probably the worst narrow boat holiday so far.
  9. Didn't enjoy the Avon at all - always wondering if the rainfall, which we had most days was going to affect the water level & current. I also think that £50 to travel on the Avon for just a week is a bit much, especially when it costs £150 for the whole year and I also found the Avon limited for places to tie up, especially between Tewkesbury & Evesham. If it wasn't for Pershore & Evesham, I would say give it a miss.
  10. Pearsons by a mile - far more informative!
  11. England are absolutely s#*t% at Rugby. Is this a racist remark I wonder?
  12. Yeah Bob very understanding people, remember, you were part of the British Empire once. Don't forget to bring you're flag to hang off the stern of the canal boat - it can help, especially if you're not used to you the canals as you will find that the majority of canal folk very helpful & always willing to lend a hand. We comply to the rules of the sea in the UK & drive on the right side when on the canal boats. Have a good trip!
  13. Couldn't agree with you more - the same thing happened to me last year at the same pub, though I was wearing my Welsh Rugby Baseball Cap, which I certainly wasn't going to remove for anyone apart from Gareth Edwards. He asked me to remove the cap after I had already ordered a number of drinks which really got my back up, so I told my family that we were leaving & walked out without paying. I was approached by the manager who told me that I had to pay for the drinks, I said no because the barman (pipsqeak) should have asked me to remove the hat prior to me ordering the drinks not after. I didn't pay! It's a canal side pub for god sake not a trendy wine bar though when I looked around it did appear to be full of Tory Bastards! Come the revolution Cotswoldsman & Paddingtonbear we will all be wearing Baseball Caps!
  14. I was there Mr Brooks - arrived at 0800hrs - came up from West Wales that morning - Health & Safety going to the extremes if you ask me! They should have made an announcement on Saturday - they new what the weather conditions were going to be wet & windy on Sunday & Monday, there were people coming from throughout the UK. I spoke to a couple from Cornwall that morning were who really p%^&"d off like me.
