  1. Lots will be rivers only, so nearer to £300 -£400/boat. I also see the odd 'unpowered' boat which will be free. Also as others have said, lots of problems with enforcement in London. Boats that don't move for over a year, etc.
  2. I've seen some pretty vicious looking things used as pins before, random tubes with sharp ends that would impale anyone who tripped. Sensible solution is something like a plastic bottle over the end, hi viz if possible. If someone trips and falls on a pin that is obviously unsuitable there's going to be some liability there. Not sure how claiming for damage caused to a steel peg would hold up against personal injury. Also, I've seen plenty of pins knocked into the towpath. Probably just some sense required all around. When light can normally see pins in the grass, ropes can be a bit harder but worst case is they're a bit taut, and you get a bit of a bump as you ride over them.
  3. No, I just think the 'oh, if only for the cyclists, our air would be fresh and clean' argument to be nonsense. Own your pollution. Own your congestion. Drive how you want.
  4. Spot checked about 10 places along the b2177 on Google maps and I didn't come across a single piece of double white line, so unless it has changed significantly lately I doubt it is a significant problem. Also, let's be frank, if you go out in a pollution causing vehicle and create pollution, that is down to you, not anyone else. If you care that much, go buy a Prius or something rather than point the blame at others. Edit - http://everyaccident.co.uk/road-b2177 seems to be about 40 accidents a year on that road, seems to me that they must be causing quite a bit of pollution and congestion? Also seems to have fatalities more years than not. Perhaps the speed limit should be knocked down to 20 or 30?
  5. Wow, you guys are crazy. Where exactly are these lanes where you are unable to anticipate approaching cyclists well enough so you can't perform a smooth overtake, it's quiet enough that they are the only cause of congestion, but it's still too busy to overtake them so rather than driving along at 40, you're stuck at 20 with your commutes taking 2 hours not 1?
  6. Wait, what? You drive(I assume) 12,000 miles a year for commuting and yet are blaming cyclists for pollution?
  7. Plenty of people appear able to make reasonably tidy roof boxes for storage as well. I'm often amazed at what people keep on top of their boats - I guess just in case.
  8. Without the sinking though (which seems to have been inevitable), the original complaint barely goes above some people being twats, with some bad steering skills. Should some examples of actual bad behaviour be cause to ban a whole group of people hiring or using boats? I personally would be happy with a bylaws three strikes you're out on canal use, might quickly cause a lot of people to have their licenses revoked though.
  9. CaRT is very slow moving. I've never seen a well maintained boat sunk outside of a lock. Have seen plenty of sink boats that looked like contenders for sinking though.
  10. Just chuck it in your spare bath...
  11. I've seen plenty of shitty craft in London, not seen a round one like that yet though. Will tick it off my list if I ever see it.
  12. This Weir? that looks quite safe for kayaking at that level (at higher levels the nature may change dramatically.) Note that the water isn't recirculating. Compare to this weir of death - recirculating from several metres out.
  13. As they say, on site a lorry needs a banksman. However, they're apparently don't as soon as they get off site...
