  2. This forum may be called canalworld but it is not just about narrowboats nor just about canals
  3. I hope not. In theory it has always been necessary to book Torksey and Cromwell but in the past you could just turn up. The 48hr requirement is new as is the inference that booking is mandatory. At Cromwell a lock keeper being on only 8am to 4pm in summer started as a Covid thing and has stuck.
  4. We will see how it goes. It does seem like booking will become a requirement rather than being advisory. To be honest I do usually plan tidal trips well in advance and with an eye on the tides but as you say dates have to be flexible, especially if coming up from the tidal side. I hope C&RT will be flexible.
  5. Not sure why 48hrs notice is now required at Cromwell and Torksey when 24hrs was previously okay . In the past you could just turn up .
  6. To the OP There are loads of miserable old gits on this forum.

  11. 20 Litres of Diesel can be delivered , but not necessarily at an attractive price
  12. I seems to me there are a lot of grumpy people on the canals. Put those who seem to do as they like and cause irritation together with those who are irritated and the entire population is well covered . I know someone who goes too fast but he is the first to complain if someone else passes too fast . Running engines falls into the same category as going too fast or too slow and other such minor offences .
  13. Would it be preferable to let the boat sink? Should bilges ot be dry except exceptionally?
  14. Is it not better to have reduced CO2 and particulates ? I don't think the exhaust will smell of chips.
  15. Does the BSS have any standards about oil coolers? I believe oil coolers usually use the coolant circuit.
  16. Maybe c&rt should contribute to the cost. A free 6 months license per day should do it ?
  17. I dont think that would be viable ,nor would it guarantee and understanding of geography.
  18. I doubt there is an such thing as a used boat with no faults. My boat had faults found on survey. I obtained prices and made estimates and reduced my offer accordingly. A little haggling later and the reduced price was agreed.
  19. You could not possibly imagine all that could happen . What a #hit day with knobs on !
  20. I agree. I dont see what they are complaining about. They get a marina berth at a reduced cost . Bear in mind the location is in Lincolnshie. I managed to escape from the county at age 18.
  21. https://www.aquavista.com/mooring-options/leisure-moorings Limited scope for straying from the home marina. But you could book a month here and there as suggested.
  22. Almost certainly not allowed. But these are moorings that can only be acessesd through the property so not really suitable for a sub let. I dont understand why they are complaining nor why they bought a house with a mooring at the bottom of the garden if they do not want a boat. Not all properties there come with a mooring. I would not buy there. It's not cheap and there are too many rules and too many nosey parkers. Plus the care home which makes the whole place seem like a slightlly spooky waiting for God sort of establishment.
  23. I understand no crops are grown specifically to make this fuel.
  24. Yes it is crazy. Unfortunately some people cannot see or plan beyond the end of next week.
  25. Maybe people who dont like the motion of a boat should change it for a motorhome? They can still park near a canal and not be bothered by the ripples from passing boats.
