  1. You can use a proxy as long as it's not to circumvent a suspension or for the purpose of using multiple accounts. I proxy to CWDF nearly every day.
  2. They also do a 64GB plan for £28.00 a month but on a 12 month contract - but you have to phone them up. It's ideal for liveaboards who use a lot of data like me. Although for me, the local mast is down right now meaning I'm having to use 3 at the moment which is ridiculously slow in comparison. If only they made dual sim "MiFI" devices that automatically failover to the sim/network with the best coverage, now that would be deal!
  3. Thanks. Can you re-test? It's a little awkward making these changes via my phone but let me know if it's still not working and I will have another look.
  4. It should be possible to upload attachments via PM which I have tested using a test user account. Although .docx wasn't supported until now. See attached, go to the same page and click "Choose files", then upload.
  5. We don't ban IP ranges. Doing so would prevent access for many users and new users alike. As a slight aside, even with 3,706,452,992 public IPv4 addresses, it's not uncommon for dynamically assigned addresses to be recycled and later used by another member, at least geographically.
  6. I have one for hot water and radiators, including 2 near useless fin rads. Works a treat and gives me hot water within 30 mins though I always leave it running for at least an hour. It's on a timer which is handy as I can ensure I have hot water/heating for when I get back home from work etc. One thing to note is that they sound like jet engines spooling up on startup so if you need to fire it up early in the morning or late at night, the neighbours may not appreciate. Once it has started up after about 10 minutes they're much much quieter though some may still complain

  10. Choosing the right network provider also plays a big part of it. Check all the big providers for their coverage in your area, they may differ significantly. I just have a Huawei mifi router attached to a porthole and I regularly get "4G" 40mbps download speeds, which is pretty good considering my nearest populated area is a small village! I am with EE but as I say, always check coverage with each supplier.
  11. I removed some content via the database which had missing or incomplete data, while the maintenance was being done this weekend. Basically the web server stopped serving requests for a short period when the database server consumed most of the resources following a maintenance task. As I alluded to in another topic, some of the maintenance work is now being offloaded to another server to prevent a recurrence. Sorry to those impacted!
  12. It is very likely that some posts/topics did not fully submit properly when the server load maxed out briefly. Although not ideal (for me ) I have offloaded the task to another server as to prevent any further performance degradation on the live site.
  13. I have tested it from here using Chrome, seems to be working ok for me. If it's still an issue, try on another browser. If it works using that, it may be a good idea to clear your site cache / cookies on your main browser. Let us know if you need any further help.
  14. Sorry - Things got a little slower than I expected but the site should be running at full steam now. Richard
  15. I'm carrying out various database maintenance tasks this weekend. (15th & 16th) You may notice some performance degradation with the site but I will try to keep it to a minimum. Our chat room is unlikely to be impacted so feel free to join our chat at any point. Link: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?app=ipchat May be a good idea to bookmark it. Cheers Richard
  16. EE do not advertise it on their website but if you call up, they will give you 64GB data for the same price, £28. The only drawback is it has a 12 month contract but for me it still seems like a good deal especially when it's possible to get over 40Mps download speeds in some areas of their network.
  17. Failing that, he could head down the Severn, then stop off at Gloucester Docks and then onwards to Sharpness, he won't need a boating partner for that route as there's hardly any locks. Though he may need someone else to be there while collecting the boat, given some hire firms can be fussy.
  18. I've tried to replicate this using Chrome and Firefox but it let me logout fine. It may be worth clearing your browser cache and cookies for CWDF.
  19. Personally I'd prefer a 24hr clock also but I'm pretty sure we'd receive a fair amount of complaints if we made such a change.
  20. Does anyone recommend a steam cleaner suitable for cleaning narrowboats? I'm looking for something multi purpose, suitable for cleaning the engine bay, (with the electrics covered up of course) the exterior and interior of the boat. Cheers
  21. Pick your time to go through Droitwich - the swing bridges in Droitwich (Droitwich barge canal) are frequently used by pedestrians who will always want to cross just as you start to swing the bridge! Makes for great fun, especially if you're single-handed!
  22. I don't watch an awful lot of TV but you can get good 4G/LTE deals nowadays. I have a 64GB data only plan with EE for £28 a month which would be suitable for a few hours streaming per day. (not HD) For me this means no messing around with satellite dishes! Streaming is arguably the future of TV so it may be worth considering but do check the coverage in your area if you decide to go down that route.
  23. ] image courtesy of stroudwater.co.uk Well I guess it's a great improvement from how it was. Here's hoping they have locked the paddles so that nobody can empty the canal!
  24. I think it's a separate project if I recall correctly though the money could have been better spent elsewhere imo, considering this lock isn't likely to be used if I'm not mistaken. Anyone know how much it cost? Bet it wasn't cheap, they've had a large hire crane parked up next to it for weeks!
  25. Thanks all, I have asked for a revised quote excluding the engine maintenance and gunwales. I will do those myself.
