  1. I have enough diesel to last me over winter so this will give me time to work out from my log book how much to declare for propulsion. Steve
  2. Brin I never store diesel on the mooring as we have a strict mooring officer!! Steve
  3. BW splits diesel price 3 ways - interesting last paragraph.
  4. Will you be filling up before the new rules start this Saturday? My boat tank is full to the brim and I filled my jerry cans at Wigan Pier this morning. Due to the demand over last week my supplier ( Derek off the wide beam boat Ambush ) has had two deliveries to refill his tank in the space of a few days. I paid 66p per litre this morning. Steve
  5. 66p per litre this morning off Derek on the wide beam boat AMBUSH at Wigan Pier. Derek has recently started to include the Anderton boat lift area in his round, this used to be covered by Chris? off NB Fenny Fuels. Steve
  6. Does the new reporting system mean that BW staff will not be carrying out their annual licence check which is normally done around this time of the year. Perhaps their normally office bound staff find it too cold on the towpath. Steve
  7. I'm sure that you can advertise in Towpath Talk free of charge. Steve
  8. I'd better start making out my list then Steve
  9. We have been round both ways but I would suggest that you stick to anti-clockwise that way you can relax for a bit when you reach Castlefield basin. Steve
  10. It should be an easy run as there may not be any major queues at the locks. At Cholmondeston lock on the Middlewich branch you could go to the canalside cafe for an "all day breakfast". In Middlewich if you stop before the big lock there a a couple of canalside pubs plus many more in the town. Ask around before you go to the Salt Barge pub for food - it had changed hands when we tried it early this year. I assume you are heading for one of the marinas at Anderton - another couple of minutes sailing will bring you to Anderton boat lift which is worth a visit and across the bridge from the boat lift is the Stanley Arms which is open all day for meals etc. Lastly, check BW's winter stoppage programme to see if any stoppages are planned for your route! Steve
  11. Tried the molegrips on mine and snapped the screw, not tried it on the other three screws. Steve
  12. Down the middle for me, unless the anglers wave to for me pass closer to them, then I usually oblige. Steve
  13. We were on the Llangollen 2 weeks ago - it was still busy but I have seen it worse. We had our evening meals in Llangollen at the Bridge End pub ( at the bottom of the steps leading down from the horse drawn boats ). The meals were washed down with a few pints of "Dizzy Blond ". BW are quite strict about the 48 hour rule at the basin in Llangollen, two boats were told to leave even though it was raining heavy. There were long queues at New Marton locks as one of the paddles was out of action. Despite the rain we thoroughly enjoyed it. Steve
  14. There must be some CWF members in that area who can pass on the message. Steve

  16. We used to use a Drum Pump on 45 gallon barrels, i'm not sure if there is one for the smaller drums though. Steve
  17. If you can find a mooring at Nantwich, walk into town and try the Wickstead Arms ( near the War Memorial ) good food and drink. Steve
  18. BW were installing the metal bollards on Baddiley and Swanley locks on the Llangollen Canal 2 weeks ago. I have yet to see anyone using them. The bollards did not prevent yet another boat getting caught on the cill and sinking at Hurleston last week. Steve
  19. Filled up yesterday at Thorn Marine on the Bridgewater Canal - 80p per litre. Steve

    Chain Saws

Some colleges run a course, I think it is called "Chainsaw on the Ground" or something similar - this covers all the safety issues. Steve
  22. The steerer is the boss at all times and she knows it. Steve
  23. One up, one down in lock flights works for us as saves us work on the lock gates. Steve
  24. The Poolstock pound always looks empty as there is a 6 foot+ drop to the canal on the towpath side. Plus vandals sometimes drain it overnight. Steve
  25. Weather forecast for Wigan is showers today, rain tomorrow, sunny spells and showers on Friday. Steve
