  1. It used to be called Blue Haven Marine.
  2. I agree with your final sentence. That's an interesting thought about Hillmorton Wharf Marina, though I suspect the entrance there is too narrow. I think the current wording means to the winding hole which is the last before the narrow locks and also before that marina.
  3. I believe that the level at which cholesterol is seen as 'too high' has been reduced in the last 25 years.
  4. Yes, there seems to be a one-off option.
  5. I don't mind having a badge but don't agree with identifying amounts paid nor ignoring one off donors.
  6. The difference between 12 one month donations and one annual is quite large. The difference between silver and gold is smaller than the difference between bronze and silver. I think that previously you preferred annual donations because this reduced the amount lost to fees. Overall I am gobsmacked by the amount of money you are seeking from each contributor. I guess it is 20 @ £100 rather than the 100 @ £20 I was thinking.
  7. I don't think the planning application mentioned any need to replace.
  8. Well they could just have assumed that the steel gates were there. With CRT being short of money, it makes no sense to me that they are replacing the steel gates with wood which will not last as long.
  9. Perhaps a potentially bigger issue is that the some of the lock walls on that flight have already needed major repairs. As regards steel gates, CRT are currently in process of replacing steel gates on listed lock 3 on the Braunston flight with wooden gates. The reason in the planning application is that they do not know if the gates were steel when the listing was applied.
  10. Always using solid fuel, we have extra fire bricks in ours. While this means it warms up more slowly, the heat retention is better. We usually keep the stove going until the end of the cruise once it is lit, running on a couple of lumps during the day when if is warmer.
  11. Because the chimney draws the fumes & smoke up and away. House chimneys are much longer than boat chimneys.
  12. I'm sure the initial bookable spaces were £10/night. The higher fees are a bit too much. It would make more sense to have a higher fee for the first night, then the £10 for subsequent ones up to a maximum of, say, 7 nights - or as they say these days 7 days.
  13. And adjacent land based businesses who benefit from canal based visitors.
  14. Even water can leave unwelcome splash marks on your neighbour's cabinsides. Best for neighbour relations to take the boat out if you wish to make a mess.
  15. It is a bit unclear to me whether you are asking about washing the ropes or the roof of the boat. Perhaps you mean both as doing one without the other may not give the best result. I recommend Phil Speight boat wash for the roof (and the rest of the cabin). I have heard some people put their ropes in the washing machine in a pillowcase. Or you may find that when the rope is dry you can shake or beat the mud out of it as dust (well away from the boat, obviously).
  16. Chicken wire will tend to be more effective when there is snow or ice.
  17. I found a requirement that the exhaust pipe must be supported.
  18. I suggest you ask your BSS examiner as part of booking the appointment. You may get away with a warning notice.
  19. Perhaps not on a narrowboat.
  20. It isn't an A bath as there is only one seat. (I have seen A baths on boats of a similar age so it could easily have been.)
  21. My boat has a shower bath. I like the inbuilt seat feature finding it useful for foot washing. It is also a useful place to store washing items when the shower is not being used.
  22. As the majority of hire boats are subsequently sold on for private use, it must make sense to build them to RCR standards rather than have to get a PCA prior to selling on.

There is a level at which VAT on red diesel changes from 5% to 20%; I think it is 2,000 litres.

This seems sensible to me and might simply be achieved by setting the VAT rate at 5%.
