Perhaps you should read the diagram again to spot the connections that state "Engine start battery" and "Chassis / hull ground" and " Engine block".

Here is a simple sketch from the Victron community for wiring a battery monitor shunt, you may not have every device shown.

How long have you had firmware V3.5X running nd how long on gui2, and when was the last update. At some point the Venus GX is going to start hitting problems as the cpu will get overloaded with all the new stuff in there with gui2. Some people with Colour Control GX are getting issues. I do not know if this is an issue here. If I read correctly you say you reduced the shore power limit to 3A, was that reduced after the problem started, and if so what was the limit before. This is important because it has been hypothesised that it is the MP measurement. However, it could still be GX to MP comms if the MP has not received the updated shore current limit. One thing worth trying is set up a custom widget from the Venus GX (often called Gateway as the device) and plot the dbus round trip time, this tells you how fast the GX is cycling, ideally it shpulrd be in the low ms values. If it is too high then perhaps some things are being missed.

Whilst the relay should be able to handle the normal DC interrupt current from a user shutdown of the system, it is much better to shutdown the chargers and/or users first in a controlled manner to avoid voltage spikes, especially if there is an alternator involved. With an alternator, the signal wire or ignition wire is connected through a programmable relay on the BMS that opens a few seconds before the contactor preventing load dump issues if the Can Bus control has not worked.

I think you are getting a bit confused, the Victron Lynx BMS, their most feature rich BMS has a contactor, which I believe is a Tyco contactor. This is designed to stop equipment from charging or discharging via CAN Bus to the Cerbo GX and then onto attached devices or via logic ATC / ATD signals to other less integrated equipment, but if charging/ discharging continues then it opens the contactor. Being an industry standard contactor I can not see it being any less able to disconnect than other lithium systems using this type of contactor.

I am worried about Steve, he did my BSS 4 weeks ago at Tattenhall having done it 4 years ago. He said he had some health issues and was planning on retiring. His published phone and email were how I contacted him to set it up. I got my BSS docs emailed the same day but the invoice did not turn up afterwards and like you I have been unable to contact him further. Really nice gent, I am hoping he is OK.

Although with the Bridgewater breach the Macclesfield may well be busier this year.

But if servicing liveaboard boaters costs much more per license than servicing home mooring leisure boaters due to the costs of monitoring, conformance letters, support, enforcement, boat removal, cleaning up towpaths etc. etc. then perhaps there will be no great loss of "available money" and one huge headache removed for CRT so they can concentrate on looking after the canals. Perhaps there is need for a liveaboard licence rather than just leisure licence that costs more on the basis that it the associated costs to CRT is higher.

Aqua Narrowboats have to do handovers in Alrewas from time to time, which is easier than needing to do it stuck somewhere on the Soar, especially for the hirers who are starting their trip.

Many reports on here of this happening, you can always set the solar charge voltage to just below the max alternator voltage so the alternator is always left with a bit of work to do.

It is the Facebook page of NABO. As said above it includes the line "long standing organisation that represents all boat owners on Britain's inland waterways'" What I think NABO are trying to say is they are not a single interest group but try to advocate for all types of boat owner.

The Epever one, 390W max, 100V input max, you should be OK with normal flexi panels but do chevk tje rated power of the panels and that the max voltage Voc open circuit voltage is less than 45V for 2 panels in series or 90V for a single panel. 90V tor a single psnel is unusually high but these are some out there.

And once the air is humid they no longer work. If you have the power you can now get small proper ac cooling systems that run on 300-500W and blow the hot air out, some even running from 22 or 24V. Expensive on a kW basis compared to domestic types. Ecoflow wave Zero Breeze, Indel B cube

If it exits into the weed hatch, when the exhaust cools down after an engine run, the cooling gas will suck water backwards from the weed hatch. If you want to know the BSS requirements go and read them on the BSS site, a link to the private boat requirements is part way down. BSS site.

Using a DC to DC without a battery can cause problems. There are a lot of reports of voltage and current cycling as the alternator regulator and the DC to DC control can get out of sync. You might be one of the lucky ones where they get along. The battery buffers the voltage preventing voltage and current cycling. The Sterling alternator to battery controllers have an extra layer of circuitry avoid this. You The other method is of course adding an external alternator controller such as Wakespeed WS500 or Arco Zeus.

How to remove heavy batteries from a confined space
PeterF replied to DandD's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
Yes, but what is around the corner where the side of the plate gets back to the swim, out if sight, hence suggestion for searching around there. It sound like the OP is not massively agile to get in and look. -

Zooming in looks like there is an upstand bracket and bolt at the left. Have a good look on the right hand side to see if there is another. Camera or phone at full teach, or a cheap fibre camera to put on your phone. Example endoscopd -
Victron BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor - What does d denote?
PeterF replied to SoggyBottom's topic in Boat Equipment
I believe that you are on the SOC screen and the d means that the battery is discharging. When charging I think you see a c. Not sure what min means. -

buying a narrowboat that ISN'T RCR compliant - bad idea?
PeterF replied to Beats88's topic in New to Boating?
Yes, that is what you need to keep and hand on, along with the boat manual from the builder. The original is usually in the back of the manual (it has been on both RCD boats I have had). -
This has been proposed several times and there was even a GOV.UK petition running. There was a letter in Waterways World from someone knowledgeable on National Parks stating that when granted, the ecosystem protection takes on a whole extra level of importance and that it always dominates, so if the canals were to become a national.park ecosystem would always trump navigation. Not the desired outcome, I am not saying that the ecosystem should be ignored, but the canals are there for navigation primarily.
