  1. They are not 'tugs' then There is only one tug.............I bet you can't guess it's name (Sorry I can't seem to delete the apostrophe)
  2. Surely that depends how old the magazine tub is? in any event is not the basin in question a 'modern' one made in Poland?
  3. That was 10 years or so ago and it was a bit of a fire sale as the then owner had moved off the canal because he was seriously ill. He might have been a wergie as well. It was then very poorly fitted out with all the wiring just twisted together etc although everything worked as far as I could determine. Drove back home and looked on Apollo Duck as soon as we got back and saw Warrior and some of you know all the rest
  4. Me and my Great Leader looked at this boat when we first were looking, it was moored 'off piste' somewhere near the Dudley No 2 canal, was in a fairly rough state then and had an extraordinary double bed in the back cabin which was raised up to ceiling height when not in use by 4 electric motors. It had the potential to be a great boat and I bid 20000 but rather fortunately this was not accepted. It seems that it is one of those boats that doesn't have much luck.
  5. If You look at the OP's profile it is likely to be Stratford, London
  6. Do any of the gurus have any knowledge of the Phipps family who possibly lived and had a pair that operated in the Tamworth area. Probably around 100 years ago and at least until the end of the war. We had some customers in the shop today from Tamworth and the woman's mother who is 101 was a Phipps and was born on a boat. There was an article in January's (?)Narrowboat about this family I believe.
  7. Yes but what you forget is that most people Are selfish morons. And yes I used to be (briefly) chair of planning for my local district council and a member for four years.......drove me mad(der)
  8. Cork it is then.......with Heldite and Pte . I can get that from our shop, thanks for all other offers but logistically it is almost perfect. I now need to find a suitably sized punch!
  9. And the heat will tend to make the fine .copper wires brittle
  10. The cover is round approx. 18 inches across, maybe a bit less. It is horizontal and only occasionally gets submerged so a serious clean up and lots of tins of Heldite looks the way to go.
  11. Thanks for very quick reply but I neglected to say that I preferencwould be for some sort of sealant as here is a ring of closely spaced half inch Whitworth bolts (?) holding the cover down
  12. If a Moomin finds it hard how can we expect any one else to understand?
  13. Any thoughts on making a gasket for a diesel tank inspection hatch or maybe some sort of sealant impervious to diesel. The gasket needs to be round, at least 2 inches wide and about 5' long.
  14. This is asking for trouble in my view, the only time we have had any grief on the 21 was when we foolishly moored 4 locks from the bottom. Why on earth would you need to stop during the no more than 2 hours it takes to do the flight. We stopped when we caught up with some, already moored, friends. 15. Take a bit of trouble and make them push fit? So that they can come out easily to be polished
  16. The Royalty motor Prince moors at Wheaton Aston SU and is currently paired with 'our' former butty Bakewell
  17. What? maybe That is because you have an old donkey to polish it for you
  18. Contact Pete Boyce at the Turn, he did ours and I really don't know how he did it for what he charged
  19. No mention of Corflex vinyl tar? Fantastic stuff, our old boat has recently had its 20 year survey and is apparently like new. Have yet o get our current boat our after 5 years or so but that definately won't be like new
  20. At It is also true that being deep draughtier means that it is often the case ex working boats keep the channels clear in the absents of dredging
  21. "Who is the goalie withthe big fat a**e, Charlie Wright's his name" yes I am an old school Brighton supporter ) yes I also know that it is off topic:)
