  1. I had a viewing of Hyldagarde July last year, and was tempted as it was light and airy, and I reckon I'd got it for 13k as it had been lowered in price and been on the market for a fair while. It is and was a lovely little boat, light and airy with a good feel, but I just couldn't see how I could get the layout I wanted, even with work done on it. I'd never have gone for a viewing at 25k though! But ya know what they say about a fool and his money.
  2. There was a topic started in Aug about whether it was possible to live on a 30ft narrowboat. At the time I mentioned a boat called Hyldagarde going for about 15k. I have just seen it back on the brokerage market and going for 25k! I thought Brexit was gonna be bad, and I thought inflation had only gone up by about 2%. Eh oh
  3. Thank you all so much for the feedback! At the moment the boat has a modified sine wave inverter. I lied, there is one electric socket running from the 600w inverter. I plan to run very little in the way of consumer goods. Charging a tablet, phone and possibly a tv. The fridge is hardwired in. I have been quoted between £400 and £600 to have wiring and fitting for two electric sockets, RCD, and a 350w victron inverter running off two 110ah leisure batteries. I'm gonna then see how things go, as I may increase to 4 batteries. And again many thanks! Oogyflip
  4. The inverter on the boat is 600w. The boat has 2 leisure batteries, and I was thinking of adding 2 more? I may run a tv, tablet and possibly a few small things. I was gonna see how things go with the 600w inverter, and possibly get a larger one if needed in the future. I'm just looking for a ball park figure of costs to run the wiring to add maybe 3 12v electric sockets. That can also be run from the inverter? I am right in thinking that the inverter converts the 12v system into 240v? Please be gentle with me Cheers Oogyflip
  5. Hi all, I am just about to purchase my first narrowboat. The boat has 12v lighting, but no electric sockets. It also has a stand alone inverter. Can someone give me a guesstimate as to how much it will cost to wire (by a professional) in sockets to run off the 12v and 240v via the inverter supply? I hope that makes sense ? Oogyflip
  6. Ah I started reading posts, then they went onto a push bike tangent. Lesson learned!
  7. I had a look at a Great Heywood boat called Hyldagarde. Nearly 30ft and really light and airy. It doesn't have a shower, but there is room for one. It's still for sale about 15k. I was almost tempted! Have a look at Whilton Marina, who still have Jean Pierre for sale at, I think 17k. It's small, probably too small but the space has been used really well.
  8. The 30f is a springer cruiser stern. Yeah I would not wanna be making a bed up every night! The dinette is at the bow and can be made into a permanent double as there is bench seating in the kitchen area that, I can, at a push turn into a small lounge. I know the 40f makes more sense, but it has portholes all the way through and is very dark even in summer. I suppose I could look at adding larger windows in the lounge/kitchen. But like zenataomm pointed out my heart is with the springer, and it's also light and airy. I'll phone round tomorrow and get estimates for the cost if a couple of windows, as that could change how I feel. Thank you all for helping me clarify things! And the chips are on me Cheers Oogyflip
  9. Newbie question again, I've put in an offer on a boat, but I've seen another that like more. I'm planning on being a cc. The boat I've put an offer on is 40f. The one I like is 30f. The 40f is ready to go, but the 30f needs a shower, vanity basin, and wiring for 240v and an inverter, but it is 10k less than the 40f. My question is basically what do people think about living on a 30f, and has anyone got a rough idea how much it would cost to do the work on the smaller boat? I should add that the larger boat was built in 2006 and the smaller one in 1980. Like I said any advice would be very appreciated. Even if it's to tell me to go and get a bag of chips instead ? Cheers Oogyflip
  10. Again thanks for the replies, they have been very useful. I have had an offer accepted for said boat, and a survey is booked for Wednesday 27th July. Fingers crossed! Hopefully I will be joining the merry band of boaters very soon Cheers all Oogyflip
  11. Thank you all for the replies! The boat is listed as 'Andycraft' by the marina. I will do a search for Andicraft. The boat is a 40 footer, built in 2005. Given it's age (I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything), it does seem like a good price. Given the price I did also think it was budget end. Ps excuse my ignorance, I ain't figured out how to reply individually ? Again many thanks. Oogyflip
  12. Hi all, This be my first post, and I was wondering if anyone knows owt about Andycraft narrowboats? I have seen one at what looks like a good price. Any info would be greatfully received! Cheers Oogyflip
