  1. First off background. I'm a cash buyer, I have between 30k and 40k to spend, I've looked at some real dogs which look nice on paper but neither fit my bill or feel like home or are astonishingly expensive (sovereign lady) for example on sale at 39k reduced from 44k who would come for 30k ish. Great boats if you have the skills to move the bedroom mid ship, take remedial work on a boat that has sat for 2 years... That's not me. I build computers and networks, my carpentry skills and imagination do not exist on a level to be confident to complete a proficient job. So...45k say 35 with inspired haggling leave me with a Surplus if 4k with bugger all room for manoeuvre. On the bright side I could look at a boat own sale around 45k, go in at 40 and the result is a perfect boat where there is little requirement for me to bugger about and learn as I go along. I've hired many times, done the Lea and Stort before Broxbourne sold up. All the boats I've seen around 30 to 40 have just felt wrong. My requirements are simple 57 min traditional 65 ft cruiser or semi A smart home feel interior, professionally done.... Mid ship bedroom, no pram cover or that's the first thing on the log burner....a dinette, separate if possible....side hatch a must. Age late 1990s to mid 2000, I don't want it to depreciate , I'll look after her to keep her value. I can do engine maintain, gaze knowingly at battery banks etc... Sine wave inverter... Would be nice.... Please help guys. Much Love Des . Yes she will be mostly lived onboard with home mooring out of Hatherton on the Staffs summit.

  3. It would be interesting to see just what you could get away with. A bit like that fella who tried to change his online banking password to barclaysiscrap, only to be told it was innapropriate. He even tried Natwestisbetter only to be knocked back. I'm not honestly advocating folks cruising around with names such as charity begins with working facilities... You get the idea and, but it would. Be fun to push ones luck for a bit of a jape.

  6. Otherton marina is in Penkridge, also Hatherton Marina we could be a good bet.
  7. Splendid... (Peg) Leg please.
  8. I can't argue with that. Each to their own, personally I loathe country and western but the missus likes it and she's got a great pair of Bristol's which more than makes up for her appaling taste in music.
  9. How politically correct do you have to be to object to people flying a Jolly Roger or 6 year olds wanting to dress up as pirates? It's hardly in the same league as displaying as swastika or navigating wearing a kkk hoodie is it? You're the type of person that will watch a T.V. show that you dissaprove of just so you can get offended and pen a letter to the broadcaster. As a pirate I must apologise for the brutality and barbarism I have inflicted upon (amongst others) Sony Entertainment, Warner Brothers, MGM etc.
  10. Yeah this, because as we all know Somali pirates fly the Jolly Roger. Give me a break.
  11. Shame his first name isn't Mike.

  13. Fair enough, I didnt realise this is how it was done. The post office managed it for motor vehicles for years though.
  14. How about licenses being issued by Marinas for a small fee. Im sure Stafford Boat ckub already do this.
  15. Thats good advice, I was planning on at least 4 110ah leasure batteries...perhaps 6 would be foolproof... I've seen 200ah batteries, deep cycle but the cost is eye watering.
  16. Thanks... If I work on 55w/240w it comes back as 0.2 amp hor... which seems silly. 55w / 12v is 4.58 amp hour... seems bugger all to me when you have 400 amp hour storage...
  17. I think I understand the difference calculating power consumption on a boat. On land we use watts as a measure of cost, however I've learnt that it's irrelevent when you depend on stored energy. In my understanding Amps are the unit that matter... volts being the width or the pool of energy available, watts are the consumption of a device (an absolute, but a figure arrived at by calculating volts divided by watts)... total power usage divided by voltage supply.... So my question is thus: If my power source is a bank of 12v batteries, how do I measure the Amps of a device running through an inverter? Is it watts / volts as in 55w / 240v or 55w/12v? Regards Des My point is do I work out the ampage of a 45w tv as 45w/240 or 45w / 12?
  18. Cyclists are a bloody menace in my opinion. Public highways aside they ruin footpaths... A pathway that would be an easy walk requires a detour because 80 plus kilos displaced via two thin tyres reduces a country path to soggy ditch. ?... I cant be arsed to go on, but it pisses me off and youre a bunch of inconsiderate bastards. Also Lycra really?..... Apparently I have a small penis because I drive a 3ltr twin turbo.... I wear jeans, so I just might be hung like trigger, you never know... Lycra? Ffs I can tell if youre circumcised.... bellends the lot of you. Awaiting ban. Des.

  20. No, theyre native to the danube basin and introduced worldwide from there. The original danube carp were whats known as wild carp, very streamlined (youd know if ever hooked one), very rare in this country and possibly absent. The carp you see mooching about were selectively bred for their size and reduction in scales... hence mirrors and leathers. Same species though. They cant really be classed as introduced any more (unlike Australia) as theyve been resident for a good thousand years.
  21. I once ate a perch as a lad, it swallowed the hook too deep, was about 10oz weight from a gin clear dtock pond (wildwood, staffs).. It was pretty good, but we were famished. Carp I've eaten caught from the river Illi in Kazakhstan.. I was mortified to see my russian in laws kill a carp, but thats what they do... in fact they kill every fish they cstch.. nothing goes back.. as much as I tried I couldnt get them to change their ways. The law in the uk runs along the lines of two fish may be taken with the consent of the fishery owner, which rules out CRT waters, besides, as much as water quality on our waters have improved (in no small way due to fisherman), theyre still canals. I probably wouldn't eat a trout that came from the cut. Clean rivers and their game fish can be a delicacy, personally I return all fish... including salmon as they do not akways perish after spawning and a percentage return to the Atantic unlike the north American variety. Pike? Dobt bother... the bones are just too much hassle for a below average taste.... Akso its worth bearing in mind that some of the monster carp you see on our waters are in some cases older than you... Theyre a lovely sight, leave them be. Kind regards Des
