  2. I am truly touched by the kindness of people on this forum , I knew this was a great place when I saw all the help and support offered to Marcus when his boat sank. I cant wait to become a true member of this wonderful community. Rick
  3. At least we were not at such an advanced stage as you. That would be absolutely soul destroying. My good lady and I will look back on this and smile in a few months when we are snuggled up in front of our wood burner. :-))
  4. Cheers guys. I know I will sell it again but this puts back the boat for another couple of months. I could almost touch it and now it feels like its been snatched away.
  5. House sale fell through today. Back to square one. Gutted.
  6. totally agree with this. I am looking for a boat at the moment and know very little about boat engines but in the many years of car ownership I have never taken one to a garage , I have done every job myself from simple things to head gaskets and big end bearings. Over the years I have saved a fortune. It really is a confidence thing but sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and dive in.
  7. Me jealous too. House sale going through (albeit slowly). Looking at boats . Three kids now left home. cant come soon enough.
  8. I think there are some good boats out there for reasonable money . I just hope I can find one . Have seen the pics of your boat southern star and she looks sweet. Rick

  11. Will be looking at boats around 27-29k and hope to do some hard negotiation. It all depends on how badly the seller wants to sell, could stretch to 25k if needed, so will see how it goes. Rick.
  12. Budget is about 23k. I really doubt that the hull would be an issue on this boat for a good few years if at all if properly looked after. From the information I have gathered on this forum some surveyors get twitchy if the thickness is down to near 4mm and recommend overplating as an ass covering excercise. Rick.

  14. 100% right decision. Just shows that a boat needs to be seen in the flesh to fully assess its condition.

  16. I would imagine it all depends on how much mess and disruption you are prepared to live with .Unlike a house where you can just close the door on it and live in another room.
  17. I will bear that in mind whilst looking then. looks like I will be buying at the right time. I suppose its a bit like convertible cars , expensive in summer but cheaper in winter. Rick
  18. Is it also fair to say that a better deal can be had " out of season " or is that nonsense, I am looking to purchase very soon . Rick
  19. Defiant two cents worth :-)
  20. I can only speak as I find. Enough people on here have a bad opinion of him , so it may well be justified. I have only been once so maybe he was having a good day. Rick
  21. I have also been to Braunston to view boats and found the guy in the office friendly and helpful. Rick
  22. Hi Richard , I thought about that as well, the vendor does seem quite keen to sell and I dont think its now worth anywhere near the oroginal price. The result of the survey is a good bargaining tool and whos to say that if properly look after the hull could go many years before needing work. I just dont want to buy a lemon. Rick.
  23. Thanks guys , Have just sent foxtrot a pm. Think this might be a non starter.
